Overspeeding by more than 70 km/h in a built-up area is extremely dangerous. Speed limits exist to protect pedestrians, cyclists, passengers and other road users. Where reckless speed puts lives at risk, there must be firm enforcement and accountability. Road safety cannot be treated as optional.
@GovUganda our road system is not forgiving enough to accommodate mistake by road users.

3,000 Ugandans drown every year. Eight every day.
We already know what can prevent many of these deaths: survival swimming, trained community rescuers and real lifejackets.
But prevention needs all of us.
Drowning prevention. You have a role.

Last week, our team brought road safety directly to the communities in Kyotera and Gomba districts through a community road safety caravan drive.
As we move through the communities, we are engaging road users and residents with practical road safety messages, encouraging everyone to make safer choices whenever they use the road.
From drivers and riders to pedestrians and cyclists, every road user has a role to play in preventing crashes and making our roads safer.
Road safety is not just a conversation for the road, it is a shared responsibility that begins with each of us.

In this back to school period, every road user; drivers and riders, we urge you to be more alert and more patient. Slow down around schools and residential areas, give children plenty of space and be prepared to stop when they are near or crossing the road.
A child may not always react to danger as quickly as an adult. Your extra caution can make the difference.

Day 14: #School resumes today. It's our duty to protect the future of Ugandan school children by using roads responsibly. Let school children dream. Ensure Safe Roads. #mydreamisalive#saferoadsug
