This comment by @GoodwinMJ seems to equate the attitudes of racist rioters with the attitudes of Britain’s working class.

It suggests “millions of decent, hardworking, patriotic British people” share the views, if not the actions, of a racist mob.

That their first reaction to the Southport stabbings would have been to jump on false information about the killer being Muslim, rather than waiting to see. That their reaction after that would have been confected outrage that the perpetrator was a black British-born son of immigrants.

That they think in the same way, even if they wouldn’t do it, as people who tried to burn down a migrant hotel. That they wouldn’t unequivocally condemn the rioters’ actions. That they even draw a link between mass migration and the violence on the streets today.

Of course there are deep problems with immigration and integration in this country. They haven’t been talked about enough, and they’ve been covered up too many times as well. Those millions of decent working class people know that.

But they are not racist. They would never want to be associated with the thugs on the streets today.

To suggest they would feels like the ultimate smear on the working class of Britain.
