Juniors talking about faculty allocations, and it's hitting that the list is not meant for me anymore, we're not going back to Shamirpet after the summer break :(
Constitutional law scholars in India are now the coroners of Indian academia- they have to conduct a post-mortem on why the subject of their study is dead.
the whales will not be watching the new hbo harry potter show. you might think this is because very few whales watch any television at all, but it is actually because jk rowling is a terf ass bitch
@swapan55 Nobody has ever thrown a couplet at you, Swapan. Or a sonnet, a haiku, or even a rhyme. Urdu or otherwise. Even the most prosaic person would know not to waste poetry on you, you giant bottle of expired Gelusil.
There is nothing that Arundhati Roy says here that I don’t agree with
“I know we are here today to talk about Mother Mary Comes To Me. But how can we end the day without talking about those beautiful cities – Tehran, Isfahan, and Beirut that are up in flames? In keeping with my Mother Mary’s spirit of candour and impoliteness, I would like to use this platform to say something about the unprovoked and illegal attack by the United States and Israel on Iran. It is, of course, a continuation of the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza. It’s the same old genocidaires using the same old playbook. Murdering women and children. Bombing hospitals. Carpet bombing cities. And then playing the victim.
But Iran is not Gaza. The theater of this new war could expand to consume the whole world. We are on the brink of nuclear calamity and economic collapse. The same country that bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki could be readying itself to bomb one of the most ancient civilizations in the world.
There will be other occasions to speak of this in detail, so here, let me simply say that I stand with Iran. Unequivocally. Any regimes that need changing, including the US, Israel, and ours, need to be changed by the people, not by some bloated, lying, cheating, greedy, resource-grabbing, bomb-dropping imperial power and its allies who are trying to bully the whole world into submission.
Iran is standing up to them, while India cowers. I am ashamed of how gutless, how spineless our government has been. Long ago, we were a poor country of very poor people. But we had pride. We had dignity. Today, we are a rich country with very poor, unemployed people who are fed on a diet of hatred, poison, and falsehoods instead of real food. We have lost pride. We have lost dignity. We have lost courage. Except in our movies.
What sort of people are we whose elected government cannot stand up and condemn the US when it kidnaps and assassinates heads of state of other countries? Would we like that done to us? For our prime minister to have traveled to Israel and embraced Benjamin Netanyahu just days before he attacked Iran – what does it mean? For our government to sign a groveling trade deal with the US that literally sells our farmers and textile industry down the river, only days before the US Supreme Court declared Trump’s tariffs illegal – what does it mean? For us to now be given ‘permission’ to buy oil from Russia – what does it mean? What else do we need permission for? To go to the bathroom? To take a day off work? To visit our mothers?
Every day, US politicians, including Donald Trump, mock and demean us publicly. And our prime minister laughs his famous, vacuous laugh. And hugs on. At the height of the genocide in Gaza, the government of India sent thousands of poor Indian workers to Israel to replace expelled Palestinian workers. Today, while Israelis take shelter in bunkers, it is being reported that those Indian workers are not allowed into those shelters. What the hell does all this mean? Who has put us into this absolutely humiliating, shameless, disgusting place in the world?
Some of you will remember how we used to joke about that florid, overblown Chinese communist term, “Running Dog of Imperialism.” But right now, I’d say, it describes us well. Except, of course, in our twisted, toxic movies in which our celluloid heroes strut on, winning phantom war after war, dumb and over-muscled. Fueling our insatiable bloodlust with their gratuitous violence and their shit for brains.”
Indians are shameless man 😭😭 imagine celebrating an irrelevant trophy like the T20 WC, which happens every year, that too in a sport that no one takes seriously except India 😭😭
If there is one thing you read today, let it be this. Umar Khalid spoke to Apeksha Priyadarshini from jail.
"What I really want those, who express solidarity with me, to understand is that I reject the victimhood that I’m often identified with by others. There is pain in this seemingly endless wait, indeed; but there is also a beauty to this pain.
I’m content where I am, in spite of what I’m being subjected to, because there is beauty in knowing that this is not about me alone. My incarceration is not merely to target me as an individual; it is to teach my fellow comrades a lesson that anyone who dares to ask uncomfortable questions to the powers that be can, and will be, forcefully silenced without respite.
Therefore, this battle that I’m fighting, too, is larger than me as an individual. This is why the language in which those, who believe in what I have to say, speak of me and others in this case needs to change.
Ours is a battle for a vision—of a time in our society when some will not be more equal than others. This conviction is what makes this pain bearable. It’s almost Christ-like, or Bhagat Singh-like. Both sacrificed their lives for causes of the oppressed and there is beauty in knowing that this is the lineage of which I’m a part, in a history that shall be penned for the future."

it's not "girls support girls" it's "girls PROTECT girls" because i could hate a girl with my whole being but i would never NEVER leave her alone in a room with a man she feels unsafe with
Air pollution affects everyone, but it affects the poor the most. To say that everyone breathes the same air, is an oxymoron, the air our PM, CM, HM, CJI, CAG, LoP, CP, LG etc breathe is VERY different from what rest of Delhi breathes, or for that matter what Sangam Vihar or Laxmi Nagar, or Kingsway Camp breathes. Therefore let’s stop calling air pollution as an equalizer, it’s not, it’s differential.
Other differential is the access to so called private remedies. A work from home, an advisory to not step out, advice to buy air purifiers, doctors prescribing a goa trip, all of this has a stench of elitism, and looking for acceptance of the problem in the civil and affordable bounds, for ask a paani puro seller or an auto driver, or a thela wala selling vegetables, or a constriction worker,to work from home, they would go hungry. To go hungry would kill them faster than the slow death of pollution. And they can’t afford to court the luxury of bad air.
Worst is access to health care. Rich have nebulizers, doctors on app, Medanta, Fortis and rest, poor don’t have anything. They at best have access to a govt hospital where they will be treated with paracetamol, in a general OPD, after losing the days work, with no real diagnosis. And they will be blamed to be living in a bad neighborhood, meaning destiny, of their own and not of the state or the rich.
Rich, because all the pollution is the making of the rich. No poor person has money to blast firecrackers, own fancy big cars emitting fumes, large construction of building, industry or otherwise.
Air pollution is not just an issue of environment and public health alone , it’s an issue of justice and equity too. It’s about how poor and the masses get disproportionately affected by actions of a few, the rich.
With regard to raising voice against the air pollution menace, rich can bring their placards (well, hardly they turn up for any protest, they are happy intellectualizing on WhatsApp groups, each of them vomiting their MBA suggestions!), and they can afford to come for one, sign up online etc. poor don’t even have the agency there. They can’t come to India Gate, can’t lose their daily wage, can’t afford to get arrested.
Therefore what is the solution?
Think of the issue from the lens of EVERYBODY. Don’t unnecessarily INTELLECTUALIZE it. Make it INCLUSIVE. Make the list of solution demand beyond convenience. And make it for everyone.
AND Nehru Park doesn’t need an air purifier.
