"Flying rivers" — currents of water vapor that normally bring rain to South America — have been transformed into corridors of toxic smoke.

This crisis, the biggest since 2010, a period in which Lula was also in power, already affects 11 Brazilian states, with smoke reaching large urban centers such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

In August 2024, 28,697 fires were recorded in the region, an impressive increase of 83% compared to the previous year. The environmental impact is catastrophic, causing enormous damage to human health and biodiversity.
