Daisies.
1966, dir. Věra Chytilová.
I first saw it when I was eighteen, and started out stripping in clubs. I saw it with friends at an after party — as a fun, light hearted thing to do. It visually stuck with me, even if I didn’t fully comprehend the story (having now watched it at least five times, there isn’t really one).
Daisies, for me, is sex work personified. It encapsulates the feelings that the role brings on. Each time I watch, I bring away something new and it makes me think deeply about my job and the connections I’ve made.
Please, if you are a sex worker, an ally or just a big cinephile like me, do give this a watch! You will not be disappointed.
