So while I don't take the OT literally, I do see this as clear evidence that childbirth was always linked to the "problem of evil", and this was how the ancients dealt with it.

@midnightphilos1 We seldom consider how dangerous sex was for women prior to reliable contraception & modern obstetrics. In the 6th century, a single sexual encounter could easily be a death sentence. I'd say the closest modern equivalent was probably the peak of the AIDS epidemic in the 1990s.
