Africa CDC has activated immediate response measures following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In coordination with the DRC Ministry of Health, Uganda, South Sudan, and global partners, Africa CDC is convening an urgent high-level meeting today to reinforce cross-border surveillance, preparedness, and emergency response efforts aimed at containing the outbreak and limiting further spread.

Preliminary laboratory results from the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) in Kinshasa confirmed Ebola virus in 13 of 20 samples tested.

So far, 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths have been reported, mainly in the Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones, including four deaths among confirmed cases. Suspected cases have also been identified in Bunia, pending laboratory confirmation.
