Elisabeth Elliot ruled the Evangelical world in the 1980s and 1990s. A new book by William Stell, "Born Again Queer," has a few details about her lesbian history. @wmstell@CTmagazine@EElliotFdn https://t.co/igmLEfF6Ek
@BilgeEbiri@menonfilmpod I don't see that meaning conveyed in your article:
"And he showed me the ending, and I was really mortified because he had taken this beautiful but sentimental ending and turned it into something much harder and much more political."

“I feel simultaneously sanctified and crucified by Hollywood.”
@idk86658175@mirthpilled@EveKeneinan Tolkien's best friend as a young man, Geoffrey Bache Smith, was gay. There was a movie about it. But I know you prefer your fantasy life.
@SwipeWright The odd gendering in LOTR was noted in the first reviews, and continues to be an important story. This was the last paper I read about it. https://t.co/NMahlPaEjT
C.S. Lewis was a different man than the Christian persona he constructed. His book "Mere Christianity" was a fable written over the erased subject: his longtime sexual relationship with Janie Moore, who lived with him for decades and doesn't appear in any of his writings.
@alwaysthoughtt1@GearlessRoe@stevenm10166217@realAtlasPress@grok Yes, I have read Mere Christianity. Have you? Calling Christianity a "true myth" isn't really a conversion account. But I accept the case of Lewis biographer A.N. Wilson's that his so-called conversion was "an excuse to abandon sexual relations with Mrs. Moore…”
In his 1943 book, The Abolition of Man, Lewis is explicitly commenting on the decline of the British empire: “You can hardly open a periodical without coming across the statement that what our civilization needs is more ‘drive’, or dynamism, or self-sacrifice, or ‘creativity’. In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”
You attempt to impose a Christian reading because this is what Christians do to try and get Lewis to be a member of their religion.
