Efficient Methods for Natural Language Processing: A Survey
A survey that started in wonderful @dagstuhl and now includes the input of many institutions and authors. A great starting point for a practitioner or new researcher trying to navigate the NLP efficiency landscape.
I'm thrilled to announce the public release of #SpeechBrain!
#SpeechBrain is an #opensource toolkit designed to make research and development of #speech technologies faster. It is flexible, modular, easy-to-use, well documented.

Excelent overview on prioritization. I like it mainly because it is pragmatic and inclusive. No single tool/view will do the trick, you will always need a mix of things to get there.
Start-of-semester thoughts:
Teaching NLP is quite depressing, and I don't know how to do it well. I am torn between the two perspectives:
1) Teach the interesting problems. Why language is interesting. Why language is hard. How is language structured. What should we look at.
Interactive tools are great. We have collected a bunch more incl.

I totally agree with @shreyas on this! This is all about having a growth mindset! Be ambitious, and if you donโt get there but reach close you are already wining!
All else being equal, itโs often more prudent to prefer teams that tend to Over-Promise & Under-Deliver (OPUD) rather than teams that consistently Under-Promise & Over-Deliver (UPOD)

Studies have shown that listening to the sound of beavers enthusiastically munching on white cabbage can temporarily reduce stress levels by up to 17%.
Itโs the โgold rushโ in the digital era. American airlines are securing multi-billion dollar loans using their data as collateral. Have you ever imagined this? https://t.co/kQHlGv4xLo

Itโs not just fewer patients. Fewer monitors. Fewer dying.
There is an actual emptiness...

Even it that sounds strange, tables have been a challenge to everyone doing information extraction or information retrieval. Good to see developments on this!
Much of the worldโs information is stored in table form. TAPAS, a new model based on the #BERT architecture, is optimized for parsing tabular data over a wide range of structures and domains for application to question-answering tasks. Learn more below: https://t.co/U9zRxaUvik
