What do you think is the cause for the shift into shorter sound bites and entertaining graphics on news reports? Why is this more appealing to people now than it was to people in the past? #UWJ201
@MatthewZwinger I think that this rapid opinion change could be due to the fact that Twitter opinions are often instant reactions to the event that is happening. Once people sit back and digest the information for a little longer they might not have such extreme opinions on the topic #UWJ201
@emmamaring4 I don't think it is too distracting or prevents people from learning and gaining information from the news. I think the tv graphics and movements are helpful in keeping the audience interested in the reports that are being read. It keeps them focused on the news. #UWJ201
Would you rather have a story come out immediately following an event with only the basic facts or wait a little longer to receive the information but get more of the full story behind it? #UWJ201
@billylauds2 I think the athletes and celebrities should be careful about what they say, but at the same time I think it is unethical to take something out of context as it completely skews the narrative. It doesn't represent the accurate intention behind the quote #UWJ201
@zoeios22 I don't think that journalists should hold back information to provide a balance. I think there are other methods they could use to establish a balance without holding anything back such as quoting certain sides of the argument more to even out the story #UWJ201
How much more do you think people would pay attention to politics and more specifically, journalistic reports of politics and current issues if we were a direct democracy? #UWJ201
@JKritz29 I think spreading debate outweighs the potential for misinformation. Everything we have read and talked about on this topic mentioned how debate is good and necessary for society and I think this outweighs the potential that a journalist spreads false facts #UWJ201
@tmac3193 I think they still are able to hold those in power accountable due to the fact that they still have wide ranging influence. Declining trust in media I believe has lead to an increase in the resistance to the journalists trying to hold those in power accountable #UWJ201
The article we read this week mentions how being exposed to different viewpoints is a good thing, what do you think is the best way to convince people of this and get them to do it more often? #UWJ201
@AnnaFel40043265 I would say the best way is to encourage people to be open minded and to make sure everyone stays calm and open to discussion when talking about a controversial topic. Getting exposed to other viewpoints is a good thing and should be encouraged #UWJ201
@sophiamolea12 I think the city you live in has a large impact on your political opinions. If the people in the city you live have a predominant view or political party you are more likely to adopt that view by engaging with these people constantly and not being exposed to other views #UWJ201
@odfulton14 I believe both are true. We learned in lecture the media often reports on topics important to their audience which in this case could be hostility to the opposite side. At the same time the hostility by the media further encourages hostile attitudes from its audience #UWJ201
Do you think that if people knew more about the ways they themselves create bias when reading articles through effects like the hostile media effect or assimilation bias, they would view stories as more neutral rather than biased toward one side? #UWJ201
@_NicoleHerzog I think it plays a large role because the idea of "fake news" has created the idea that most sources are completely biased and can't be trusted. This might make people only use sources that support their ideas and completely throw out sources that don't match their views #UWJ201
By attempting to deliver mainly facts over personal anecdotes, do you think the media is desensitizing people to tragedies and causing us to simply accept them as usual events? #UWJ201
@TillieMoldenha1 I definitely think that I was influenced a little bit by framing effects on a day to day basis. But now having learned more about these effects and how they influence people, I feel as though I can spot them easier and see both sides of the argument a little better. #UWJ201
@HandoLauren I don't think it should be required because many people only want information that is framed to their own viewpoint anyway. It is on the reader to determine if they want another viewpoint that potentially provides counter framing to the topic at hand. #UWJ201
@katiehardie5 I think the media plays a large role in this. If villains keep getting portrayed as certain demographics than it will make people more often see others of that demographic this way and reinforce the potential stigmas and bias they already have #UWJ201
@StengelIsabelle I donโt think it needs to follow stricter censorship. I also believe that it is up to the family to decide whether or not the program is ok for their child to watch. Forced strict censorship for young viewers should not take away from content ... #UWJ201
