What I hate about the new Dune is that two brief scenes with nothing to do with spice, sandworms, or Paul Atreides utterly outshine the other 98% of runtime.
They felt free to make these villains truly alien and thus gripping, but the heroes must be "relatable" and thus dull.
Our 3 year old @Samsung Frame TV decided to no longer detect HDMI inputs. Samsung's recommendations are to either (1) buy a new $3k TV, or (2) deal with it.
People often think that something "far off" will make them happy. That moving to a new place or getting a different job or meeting someone new will change how they feel. But happiness will always be withheld if you believe it is somewhere else. The secret is to find happiness in the people and places that are close to you. See the beauty in the things that are nearby.
I’ve made a lot of hard decisions in my life where it wasn’t clear which option was best—where It could go either way.
I call them 50-50 decisions. Over time I learned a useful tactic for making these difficult decisions:
👉Bias toward the option that is bolder or is a bigger change.
Why?
Because we have a natural tendency to underestimate the benefits of change and overestimate the risk of it. We imagine far-fetched, highly unlikely worst case scenarios while ignoring the (more likely) upside possibilities.
It’s fear talking.
So if it feels 50-50 it’s probably NOT because you’ve subconsciously handicapped the bolder (scarier) option.
It's impossible to completely remove fear from the decision-making process, but be aware when it's playing too big a role.
@rohindhar One callout: the cable that connects the TV to the box is annoying and *technically* you’re supposed to upgrade ($300 I think) to an insulated one to hide it in the wall. Haven’t done this yet.
@SahilBloom Love this. I have a note on my phone called “ideal days” meant to capture and reflect on common patterns from great days. Recently started another for “joyful moments”
Over the last 3 years we've seen:
1. Largest pandemic in over 100 years
2. Interest rates rising at their fastest pace in history
3. Collapse of massive crypto exchange, FTX
4. Closest we have been to WW3
5. 2nd & 3rd largest bank collapses in US history
Yet, the stock market is down just 19% from its all time high.
What will it take to break this market?

1. Consider the things won't give a f*ck about in 5 years. Other people's opinions, petty disagreements, sensationalized news. Allow yourself to stop caring now.
