@dantley@TaylorLorenz Definitely feels in need of some thoughtful design leadership on the experience and choosing the best optimisation metrics, not just the never-ending pursuit of algorithmic click optimisation.
@bscholl Probably the result of being led by randomly AB testing 1000s of tiny changes than any real product/design leadership. Canβt imagine the number of 10x better designs that have been thrown in the bin due to unfavourable short term AB test results.
@mims@TaylorLorenz@JoannaStern Optimising a product for ad clicks will always destroy the customer experience. The only long term alternatives are ones who can afford to optimise for more thoughtful metrics that are aligned to their mission, not ads.
@johncutlefish My advice: just be curious about development work and ask questions. In my experience engineers love explaining the complexities of their work to PMs who are genuinely interested.
I think this is an amazing gesture, the @officiallydale club doctor @bigdrwes has donated a substantial amount to #joekickscancer and has won the bidding to play in my testimonial tomorrow.

@johncutlefish I find a good filter for the 5/10 ideas is the answer to: βCould I make a good case for pulling people off the most important company objective to do this?β The 8-10s make it through, the rest donβt.
When Jeff Bezos announced a year ago that Amazon Prime had 100 million members, I had a thought: I donβt know a ton about how Prime came to be.
So over the past year, Iβve tried to find out.
Hereβs the story of Amazon Prime, in oral history form.

Weβre on a mission to change the way people pay each other back; no sort code swapping, no awkward chasing texts, no double checking details β just a few taps.
@adamnash Wonβt make a difference if no one ever sees the content - neither are particularly great at surfacing the long tail. Only a matter of time before they want a search/recommendation impression quota too.
@giffco βYou have to make this about the strategy, not about your whims or ego. The former leads to excellent debate and a meritocracy of ideas.β π- IMO, if people donβt know what Product are doing then itβs a lack of writing things down, debating, and making decisions explicitly.
