#NewSpeciesAlert - π»ππππ βπ’ππ π€ππππ and π»ππππ βπ’ππ πππ’πππππ , two new species of labeonin cyprinids are described from tributaries of the Pearl River Basin, southwest China.

@aspiringpeasant And the same politicos slashed all the biomedical research that was meant to help make more treatments!!!!!
(N.b. yes re: drug scheduling-type illegal, but some illegal treatments are illegal bc they just plain don't HELP)
@Mildred5982@aspiringpeasant This is true, but also: this requires a dr who can *communicate effectively* with the pt - esp. when that's a PT with language, cognitive, or just plain educational barriers to understanding - ex. The abundance of stories about suppositories being taken orally(!)
@ThedogJarfry - to reduce/remove an element that won't just make things WORSE, even though it's ultimately an option the pt deserves.
A lot of conditions aren't strictly "curable" - but today, they're SURVIVABLE. Before, they'd just KILL you.
@ThedogJarfry It takes a LOT of work to sus out things that push a more specific lever. The people looking now basically point a shotgun at an archery target and hope for a bull's-eye!
And yes, you're probably right about your SIL. Once someone's in a mess like that, it's hard...
@mrsfilly77 For obvious reasons, guys who can muster respectable-looking facial hair (etc.) don't run into that as much; those early in transition or unlucky in the genetic lottery, though... (NOBODY wants to be hassled when they need to pee!)
@mrsfilly77 Thank you for your emphatic support!
Just a note - it's a symptom of an unfair world, but trans men who find they're not passing to passerby sometimes DO use the women's loo. The kindest policy is a "if we're all just here to do our business and go, no big deal"
The national library has apparently, by accident, modified its online copy of the U.S. Constitution to remove the presidentβs least favorite part: The provision that guarantees peopleβs right to challenge their detention and demands the government justify their confinement.

@IAMBSeeley@mayfer No, the split would have been "one eye LEFT, one eye RIGHT". All the other fancy cognitive distinctions necessarily showed up later.
@mayfer - and aren't universal in arguably-complex brains; ex. Octopus have discrete left and right optic lobes, but the central portion of their brain, which is responsible for integrated response to stimulus, is actually THICKEST at the midline!
@mayfer Keep in mind the cerebellum IS connected along the whole midline - it's things that serve a discreet Left Instance and Right Instance, like olfactory lobes and optic lobes, that aren't.
Hemispheres are probably an artifact of much simpler pick left/pick right systems -
@huntersrolinson I mean, at some point we probably will create a sentient (non-/pre-sapient) system that we can be meaningfully cruel to, and we should be WATCHING... But it's not likely from a LLM.
Even animals models that are likely not sentient (ex. Nematodes) are a lot more self-referential
@dporges@kineyDE@GergelyOrosz The rename is amazing: BOTH phonetically the layout... AND the user.
(I'm suddenly pondering the relative ergonomic-ness of different keyboards by language typed... It's gotta vary a lot.)
@FreedTMG@_celia_bedelia_ In theory, laproscopic surgery with a vaginal entry site is possible - perhaps not likely, though... but ALSO, a REALLY obvs reason why the surgery would be targeted; there's only so much "go fish" you can do with that equipment, and you need to plan ahead!
@_celia_bedelia_ Given endo is effectively a non-displastic cancer, I'm not surprised a surgeon would avoid debulking it on spec; you really don't want atomized endo cells that can seed new patches, and I bet removal sites like to make adhesions...
@allie__voss@bottleneckloser The (limited) data in HUMANS thus far DOES NOT match the reproductive toxicity models for sterility, which are rodents. T-HRT may not cause physiological infertility at all!
@allie__voss@bottleneckloser Prepubertal kids don't get HRT, so they'd spend several years making up their mind first.
E-HRT is EVENTUALLY sterilizing, but preserving sperm samples is trivial.
The "May cause permanent infertility" warnings on T-HRT are generic pre-study and/or only-animal-model-data ones.
@FoxFoxM3@chachamyeon I don't know what you imagine trans people have been experiencing 24/7/365 right up to the day they decide to transition anyway, but anyway... Bro, if your testicles feel threatened by the existence of transitioners, your manhood is one gas-station TP sheet from the wind.
