The judiciary could have put this in their budget and demanded it, just as the National Assembly does; that's why the concept of first unencumbered charge on the budget exists

The morning after, it should be crystal clear to all Nigerians irrespective of party affiliations that Justice Peter Lifu is a threat to our Democracy. Apart from being saddled with the contrived cases against the ADC, he is also presiding over the cases of NDC and APM all aimed at deregistering the opposition parties. Any government that abhors opposition parties is intentionally creating room for chaos and anarchy. Like the Court of Appeal said yesterday, Justice Lifu is a misfit to the judiciary and is not qualified to sit at a beer parlour bench!
As a Muslim, there's something that genuinely bothers me.
Millions of Muslims live in Christian majority countries, build mosques, preach Islam publicly, distribute Qur'ans, open halal businesses, and demand religious freedom, and rightly so.
Some even call for aspects of Shariah to be accommodated in the societies they've moved to.
Yet in some Muslim majority countries, Christians cannot openly preach the Gospel, build churches freely, or practice their faith without restrictions.
Why?
If we demand religious freedom for ourselves, we should be willing to grant it to others.
Truth does not need censorship.
If Islam is the truth, it has nothing to fear from a church, a Bible, or a Christian preacher.
You can't demand tolerance and freedom for Muslims abroad while denying the same freedoms to others at home.
The double standard needs to be called out.
To deregister a major opposition party on factually incorrect grounds just months before an election is state-sanctioned violence against democratic pluralism.
“YOU ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE”, ADC WARNS GOVERNMENT AGENTS SEEKING PARTY DE-REGISTRATION
-JUSTICE PETER LIFU IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY, SAYS PARTY
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to warn, in the strongest possible terms, against any attempt to use the judiciary as an instrument to undermine democracy and plunge Nigeria into a major political crisis.
We are deeply alarmed by the judgment reportedly delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in a case filed by the so-called National Forum of Former Legislators seeking the de-registration of the ADC and four other political parties. This judgment stands in direct conflict with constitutional principles and all known judicial processes and procedures.
The facts are straightforward. The plaintiffs had argued that the ADC and four other political parties failed to satisfy constitutional requirements relating to continued registration. However, in its counter-affidavit filed before the court in May, INEC, the constitutional body empowered with the registration, regulation, and supervision of political parties in Nigeria, categorically maintained that the ADC had not violated any registration requirements, had not failed any constitutional electoral-performance threshold, and that no legally recognised basis existed for its de-registration.
INEC further made it clear that the de-registration of a political party cannot be driven by political pressure, sentiment, or the wishes of interested parties. It must be based strictly on constitutionally established grounds, none of which had been proven against the ADC.
Apart from INEC's firm position in support of the party, the ADC finds it troubling that the trial judge was aware of a subsisting order of the Court of Appeal issued on May 22, 2026, directing a stay of proceedings on the matter. The judge, however, chose to flagrantly and contemptuously disregard a clear order of a superior court in a manner that brings into question all known judicial traditions.
The ADC considers this development not merely a legal dispute, but a dangerous escalation capable of destabilising the nation's democratic process. Our position is anchored on the role that agents of the ruling party have played in this matter. It would be recalled that the case has been championed directly by individuals working with the President's Chief of Staff. The decision of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who is a second defendant in the matter, to join the matter as a plaintiff in April, is an absurdity, which sends a signal that is impossible to ignore.
We are therefore left in no doubt that this latest development is a continuation of the ruling party's persistent efforts to undermine the opposition, especially the ADC. We also find the timing of this ruling quite curious. Despite all the obstacles placed in its way, the ADC has risen to the task and met all benchmarks and deadlines. Therefore, coming at a time when the party has concluded its primaries and is fielding candidates for all positions in the next election, especially the presidential election, it is clear what this is all about.
However, the ADC would like to warn that any attempt to eliminate the country's major opposition party through judicial manoeuvring, thereby sabotaging the political aspirations of hundreds of its candidates, is a direct invitation to anarchy.
This is why we consider this ruling reckless, provocative, and even incendiary. Those who believe they can manipulate institutions of state to narrow the democratic space must understand that they are playing with forces far greater than partisan interests.
At a time when millions of Nigerians are struggling under crushing economic hardship, escalating insecurity, widespread unemployment, and growing national anxiety inflicted by the APC, it is deeply disturbing that powerful forces appear more interested in eliminating political opposition than confronting the real crises

DON’T DESPAIR OVER LATEST JUDGMENT, ADC WILL BE ON THE BALLOT IN 2027 — MARK ASSURES PARTY FAITHFUL
The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), , has called on party members, supporters, and candidates on the platform of the party not to despair over the judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which purportedly ordered the deregistration of the ADC and some other political parties.
Senator Mark, in a swift reaction while receiving a delegation of the party’s candidates who paid him a visit in Abuja on Monday, described the judgment as “an arrow fired at the heart of Nigeria’s democracy,” assuring party faithful that the decision would be overturned by superior courts.
He recalled that the Court of Appeal had earlier ordered a stay of proceedings in the matter and adjourned further hearing to October 27, 2027. He therefore questioned how a judgment could validly be delivered while the subsisting order of the appellate court remained in force.
“The judgment cannot stand. It will be set aside because it does not pass the test of law and due process. Our democracy must be protected from actions that seek to undermine the constitutional rights of political parties and the choices available to Nigerians,” Senator Mark stated.
He urged ADC candidates and supporters across the country to remain calm, focused, and committed to the party’s mission, stressing that there was no cause for alarm.
“The ADC will be on the ballot in 2027. I assure all our candidates, members, and supporters that this temporary setback will be overcome through the judicial process. We remain resolute and confident in the rule of law,” he added.
Senator Mark further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

General Rabe Abubakar: A National Tragedy — David Mark
The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has described the death of former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), in the custody of his abductors as a national tragedy and a painful reminder of the worsening security situation in the country.
Senator Mark, a retired Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army, was visibly emotional while reacting to the development, lamenting that Nigerians have become endangered in their own country due to the persistent threats of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
He noted that the death of a distinguished military officer who devoted his life to the service of the nation underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security architecture.
According to him, “The death of Major General Rabe Abubakar in captivity is not only a personal loss to his family and the military community but also a national tragedy. It raises serious concerns about the safety and security of every Nigerian citizen.”
The former Senate President observed that insecurity has continued to escalate for more than a decade, affecting every segment of society. He therefore called on Nigerians to unite against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and all forms of criminality threatening the nation’s peace and stability.
He queried: “What next for the ordinary citizen if pupils and teachers are unsafe in schools, homes are invaded by criminals, places of worship are no longer secure, and our roads have become dangerous corridors?”
Senator Mark lamented that Nigeria, once regarded as the pride of Africa, is increasingly losing its standing because of the inability to adequately guarantee the security of lives and property.
He stressed that it is time for the country to return to the drawing board, identify the root causes of insecurity, and implement practical and lasting solutions that will restore public confidence and national cohesion.
Despite the grim situation, Senator Mark expressed optimism that with determination, sincerity of purpose, and collective commitment, Nigeria can overcome its security challenges and reclaim its place among the comity of nations.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all victims of banditry and kidnapping across the country.
Senator Mark also urged governments at all levels to rise to the challenges of insecurity by mobilizing all required resources toward ending the menace.
“The security and welfare of the people remain the primary responsibility of government. We must act decisively now before more innocent lives are lost,” he stated.

Minister @fkeyamo The proposed railway line from Ikeja to Lagos Airport ALSO IN IKEJA appears to be nothing more than a waste of scarce public resources. It is difficult to justify this project on economic or transportation grounds; it looks more like a vanity project than a priority investment.
One of the commendable decisions of your tenure as Aviation Minister and the Tinubu administration is the ongoing upgrade of MMIA. However, this particular rail project raises serious questions about value for money.
What exactly is the distance between Ikeja and MMIA? Traffic along that corridor is not so severe that it warrants a dedicated rail line.
A more practical and cost effective solution would be to dualise and improve the existing road network linking MMIA through the Beckley/Beacham Police Station axis to the FAAN headquarters. Such an upgrade would ease traffic, improve accessibility, and deliver greater benefits at a fraction of the cost.
At a time when resources are limited and infrastructure needs are immense, government spending should be guided by necessity, efficiency, and measurable public benefit, not prestige projects.
