If changing incentives get the sport closer to the nuclear path (big rivalry games mean less), then it should be considered

Every benefit of CFP expansion (some valid) are bets that reality wont come.

But that’s why I brought up 120 earlier. That was the FBS number in ‘08. I wonder how much this era will cut it

But I’d think “football (and 🏀) become substantially deprioritized tools for enrollment” is a much less likely than say, “university attendance is deprioritized in American culture”.

They’re going to be the best tools the schools have for a long time

When do we think there’s going to be less than 120-125 teams playing “major”football? Football or basketball will be the front porch for how many schools for X years?

But that doesn’t point to unsustainably is the point. A good argument can be made it has or will be a worse product (I would not land there). But worse ≠ collapse.

It’s not the model a billion dollar business “should” be run on, but I don’t see how it stops working.
