@Jfreeg_@sofiatieger In most European countries when you buy a drink you pay a deposit on the can/bottle. You can that deposit back when the can/bottle is returned. Check https://t.co/L4ilTyCEPq or https://t.co/f0t52qVCGk. Usually €0.15-€0.25 on can/bottle
@CallMeNPC @JackKavanagh12 I never thought it was uniquely Irish, common across lots of Europe. Just those built at the turn of the 20th century, are sometimes prettier than a lot of those built mid-century or after. But like no architectural style exists of itself.
@CallMeNPC @JackKavanagh12 There’s nothing depressing about the older good quality red bricks in Dublin. Like Patrick St. what’s depressing is the new builds. I think we should follow the old style for the exteriors.
@LewisCTech@duanery82@Swimmingsolo1@jhallwood Yes but just because the terms predates its colonial use, doesn’t mean to the Irish it’s a colonial term. Whether or not you want to respect that experience is your choice, but we don’t like that term. We are not British, especially not just because the Greeks said so 200 y ago.
@IrelandOCDS@KeithMillsD7 They shouldn’t be decided by votes. They should be given to all, regardless of the silly ignorant opinions of the religions and conservatives. But thankfully each passing decade Ireland is less ignorant, conservative, and religious.
@_01_01_01_01_@CatShoshanna Is it funny because putting that in there acknowledges there is an occupation of Palestine? Or is it funny because the Irish were oppressed in a similar way to how Palestine is today? Curiously, I want to know how it’s funny?
Walking around Belfast, you're left in zero doubt as to whether a community identifies first as British or Irish by the pro-Israeli or Palestinian symbolism everywhere.
How our past still so often shapes where our sympathies lie: with the oppressor, or the oppressed.
I just don’t accept that you can be a socialist, humanitarian, anti-racist or internationalist & have nothing to say about people being burnt in tents, purely because they are Palestinians - a people who’ve been brutalised for more than a century. (1/2)
Iran's attack on Israel was a) aimed at military targets and b) didn't kill any Israeli civilians.
The result? The UK imposing sweeping sanctions on Iranian officials and organisations.
Israel wipes Gaza from the face of the earth.
The result? The UK keeps arming Israel.
Truly disturbing scenes came out of culture night. Ones that show a disparity in policing between certain demographics. Ones that have left a bad taste in the mouth of organisers, attendees and creatives alike. Much love to Tola Vintage and let’s hope next year we can all party in peace!
