The anointed OT prophets were given the Word by The Word who would show Himself to be THE anointed Word that was sent from heaven to earth, to empty Himself BY taking on human flesh in order to Himself proclaim good news to the people.
Excited to preach of our hope from Heb 6. This hope is “a firm trust in God for the enjoyment of the good things contained in His promises, at the appointed season, raising in the soul an earnest desire after them, and expectation of them.” — Owen
Adopting a Calvinistic Soteriology without also embracing the law / gospel distinction and the Covenantal framework within which it rests is a deficient understanding of the Bible as a whole! May we all dig deeply into the Mystery of Christ!
Because I know my influence and prowess carry so much weight, I’d like to suggest to all who X’s algorithm send this to.
If you haven’t read Thomas Murphy’s book “Pastoral Theology”, I would put it on your list! Good gospel clarity and an old message sorely needed still today!
Dear preacher, as you prepare your sermon for Sunday, may we “adhere obstinately to the message we have received from heaven, and trust God for the success.” (T Murphy)
“The grand rule of the preacher should be to search out the mind of God as revealed on the sacred pages, and then simply to publish it to his fellow men.” —T Murphy
As we proclaim the good news of Jesus for us today, may we trust the Holy Spirit to do His work through His Word so that would people find rest in Him!!
I pray my message to the church never changes, but that I may devote myself “to the discharge of it with greater conscientiousness and deeper reverence.” (Calvin)
Churches that abandon God’s mission of the church through fighting earthly and political battles miss what is of “greatest importance, that the truth of God is maintained by the pure preaching of the gospel.” I believe Calvin is spot on!
Calvin is spot on when he comments on the Church being the pillar and buttress of the truth: “silence in the Church is the banishment and crushing of the truth.” It is when Churches stop proclaiming Christ and the truth about the gospel that truth is abandoned. Proclaim Christ!
Grateful for a week at the GRN Conference. Gathered to hear about Jesus! Encouraged in my rest in Jesus. Praying for growth in Jesus! All to the glory of God!
