The Austell Grant Team stepped into the “tank” to make our pitch for our Top C.H.E.F.S. (Collaborative Hydroponics and Engineering for Students) Lab at Cobb Tank! We were awarded $5,000 to fund our efforts to expose our students to hydroponics! @AustellEagles@STEMcobb
I’m back! We have launched our new reading program and I am excited to be working with teachers with the implementation. I enjoyed teaching the first lesson of the series with 3rd grade. Come along as we venture into Wonders! @AustellEagles
My fabulous partner Becca and I welcomed 26 new 4th grade colleagues to Cobb during NTA 2024! What an amazing group of new talent! #lovetoteachhere#CobbNTA2024
My day has been made! So excited to be returning to @UnivWestGa for an Ed.D. in School Improvement through the Georgia’s BEST program! I am so grateful to @CobbSchools and the opportunities I have been afforded here - the BEST place to teach, lead, and learn! #GeorgiasBEST
“Historically, deep learning experiences have been rationed and reserved for the privileged and dominant group in power.” How are we using the research to disrupt the cognitive redlining? -Zaretta Hammond #AVL2024@Ready4rigor
Enjoying the Visible Learning Conference in Sunny San Diego! Gleaning tons of research on what influences student learning and how to make the learning evident. #AVL2024@AustellEagles@PrincipalKRach
@ValentinaForSOS @RealCandaceO You have no right to tell US anything about Juneteenth, nor do you have the right to an opinion about reparations. You, ma’am, are an IMMIGRANT seeking acceptance from the majority with your hateful vitriol.
As we continue our WW2 Interdisciplinary Unit, students examined artifacts from the era, including a soldier’s uniform, a steel pot helmet, newspaper headlines, military recruitment posters, magazines, and photographs! I am enjoying this coaching cycle with my 5th grade team!
I worked with our fifth graders as we opened our Interdisciplinary Unit on WW2. We examined and analyzed maps and tables to gain insight into Germany and Japan aggression that set the tone for the war. These historians were all in! More to come as we inquire into this topic!
Spent today with our 5th graders reviewing expanded notation with decimals and fractions. Virtual manipulatives help kids make sense of math…and they’re easy to manage - no pieces on the floor! @CobbMathDept@AustellEagles
The walls of the school should “tell the story of teaching and learning!” As a teacher, I remember when I shifted the way I posted student work to a more museum-style fashion, documenting the learning process during the unit. We don’t need. 24 copies of the same finished product!
Fraction fun with fifth graders! We used Fraction Tower Cubes (a personal favorite of mine) to reason about fractions greater than, less than, and equal to 1 on the number line. It’s always great to be in the learning action!
Just a few of the beautifully crafted turkeys from our infamous Turkey Decorating Contest! The teachers and students really get into some fierce competition!
