A policeman took an axe and a panga. He called his wife and his 3 children, aged between 12 & 18, into a bakkie. 💔

He drove almost 30km away from home, deep into thick bushes. 😭

He parked the car where no one could see it. 🥺 He took out the axe and the panga... he called his wife and kids, and they walked about 5 minutes away from where the bakkie was parked.

Because he is a strong man, he took the axe and gave the panga to his wife and kids...

...and they started cutting down trees. Their aim was to fill up the bakkie with firewood because they don't want to waste electricity. 😊

ON THE VIOLENCE METED OUT TO CLINICAL OFFICERS IN MAKUENI: THE BUCK STOPS WITH THE GOVERNOR.

It was barbaric, shameful, immoral, inhuman, criminal, illegal and unconstitutional for the County Government of Makueni to hire goons to unleash VIOLENCE on clinical officers who were legitimately exercising their constitutional right to picket.

It must be remembered that the industrial action by the clinical officers is as a result of FAILED leadership. There are no medicines and other essential items in health facilities. The general environment in hospitals for patients and health professionals is pathetic dirty facilities, sharing of beds, etc.

The workload for healthcare workers is next to SLAVERY, far beyond the stipulations of fair labour practices, among many other shortcomings.

Political accountability for the county government rests with the Governor. I therefore call upon Governor @GvnMutula to take full responsibility for the violence meted out to innocent health professionals yesterday. Heads must roll. Arrests and prosecution must be effected.

In other democracies, the Governor should have resigned by now.

The County Assembly must remember its cardinal constitutional mandate of oversight and representation, and rise to be counted in defence of the oppressed health workers.

My good MCA friends must debunk the perception that they are an extension of the county executive, lest the people confirm the same.

It is even worse when we saw women being beaten and harassed in ways that are clearly prohibited under the Sexual Offences Act. Decisive action must be taken.

Makueni must say NO to the creeping culture of GOONISM. We now know the owners of the GOONS. Shame on them.

Leadership must be exercised in ways that are democratic, civil, peaceful and non-violent. It must be exercised within the constitutional and legal boundaries of leadership and integrity.

I call upon the individual health workers to report the atrocities committed against them to the police. Don’t be intimidated. You are not personal employees of any individual. You are public officials paid by taxpayers.

I also call upon the EACC to quickly move in and investigate the (un)ethical, leadership and integrity transgressions arising from this incident.

To the investigative bodies, do not just go for the small fish; go for those who bear the highest responsibility, the organizers and financiers.

We will not allow Makueni to slide back. Makueni, arise.

Today, a Rwandan trader in Mwiki was robbed of his bucket of mandazi, two thermos flasks of black coffee, and the money he had made selling to honest people.

The thieves were chang’aa addicts who thought they had found an easy target.

Unfortunately for them, they found the wrong neighbourhood.

I responded immediately from Maji Mazuri. One robber left the encounter with fewer teeth than he arrived with; another went home with a head injury. Meanwhile, we raised KSh 3,500 for our fellow African trader to help him get back on his feet.

Let me be very clear: we are not going to stand by while criminals prey on hardworking Africans trying to survive.

A man wakes up, makes mandazi and coffee, carries his little business on his back and comes to Kenya to earn an honest living. The least we can give him is security and dignity.

To the mugukaa, miraa, & chang’aa gang: mandazi is not your inheritance, coffee is not your birthright, and Mwiki is not a free-for-all buffet.

We are Africans before we are anything else.

We welcome our brothers and sisters from across this continent, and we will defend their right to work peacefully.

Kenya must never become another South Africa where fellow Africans are attacked simply because they crossed a border looking for a better life.

We can be tough on criminals without becoming cruel to foreigners.

Leave hardworking traders alone.

Let them hustle.

Let them eat.

Let them go home safely.
