I think you nailed it. What outcomes are you seeking? We need that so we can get as close as possible to alignment. Then, what about a governance mechanism. I favor a Private/Public consortium to support this innovation. Not one aligned on policy/profit - lobbyists and crony capitalism. rather one aligned on values/prosperity.

Excellent pov. Steam, electricity, compute and the internet would be examples of past technological advances. Historically speaking, these have elevated societal standards/not necessarily our greatest asset:Earth. The pace of the day is worth noting. I believe this is the real value of competition. They will all try to deliver value, some will work, some will not, there will be advocates and there will be critics. That's natural with any form of change. We must respect the 5 personas of change - the charger, the navigator, the bystander, the critic and the victim. We all experience change differently & this is a BIG one. So how does say a navigator and a critic communicate with one another? This is step 1. Humans have real connections and genuine emotions - we can all agree (well maybe not ray kurzweil) that we need to be the best steward of AI. What that stewardship looks like should be vigorously and respectfully debated
