Dear Ugandan doctors and nurses,
This country waits for industrial action to increase your pay. If you have that blue book, good luck. Psychologists? You should be first in the queue.
As human beings, there’s one place we can’t run away from and that’s a healthcare facility.
In sickness or in happiness, at some point, we all become patients. Isn’t that reason enough to make our healthcare facilities better, safer and more humane for everyone?
To all essential workers in Uganda. My advice is to join the medical doctors if it comes to that. Lay down your tools until this government learns to prioritise essential services.
While Members of Parliament are awarded huge salaries in millions of shillings every month, and ministers enjoy luxurious cars, transport, and other privileges, ordinary government officials are paid handsomely for contributing almost nothing of real value to this country.
I commend the Uganda Medical Association for standing up to the government and taking this bold step. If the government does not respond accordingly, all essential workers should lay down their tools. This government clearly has its priorities completely misplaced, and we must let it know.
Teachers should also join them. I remember teachers have long struggled inadequate pay. All essential workers need to boycott until this government starts prioritising what is truly important.
What essential services do Members of Parliament actually provide to Uganda? Zero.
Every worker should join the doctors and demand better pay. I fully support the Uganda Medical Association for standing up against the government, and we will stand with them all the way.
This government needs to understand that it must stop enriching itself while neglecting the interests of the people.
