Alright I'm off this app for the next couple of months
I need to finish this book project so I'm going into monk mode until it's done
Hope you all have a good summer 🙏
@nbaschez@AcquiredFM Yeah I'm a fan of Founders as well, I was thinking less business and more like literature/culture, but I'll stew on it this summer and see what might make sense
Weekend thought
It would be fun to start a podcast that's like @AcquiredFM but for books instead of companies
Cover: a writer, their work, the substance of their book + how it was received, what it means today, weird lore etc.
>1x per week could be a cool way to spend a year
@nbaschez@AcquiredFM Yeah as soon as I posted this I thought the same thing - it would take a lot of work to do a good job, but I do think at the high end (i.e. if the upfront work was really put into it) there would be an audience there
TBD
@BoonaETH@AcquiredFM the challenge as with anything is how much of a commitment it would be before ever getting any traction
>there's probably an audience for this, it also probably would take 1-2 years to make that legible
I gave a (very) short talk last month at Dorm Summit to a bunch of college students on how they might think about their careers through the lens of reputation & personal brand
If you’re interested in listening to me yap about those topics, then check out the recording below 👽

@NFTFlow_ I think the unsexy answer is still just reps & feedback i.e. I've written a lot of awful stuff and over time slowly refined it by asking myself versions of how do I make this better
>then I've tried to make one thing better each time: sequencing of ideas, better stories, etc.
Morning advice if you want to write on the internet
-Write about topics you genuinely care about... if you don’t, you won’t be able to stay interested in the work for long enough to get good
-Try to write consistently, both because it’s a forcing function to press send & also because you need the reps of having a lot of work out in public to see how people respond in terms of topics, structures + formats
>Related: Writing is like stand up comedy where a comedian takes time to figure out what’s funny by testing their jokes on sample audiences to see if/when they laugh… I think good writers need feedback in the same way to figure out when they're at their best
-Every time someone drops a comment, take the time to respond because at the beginning building an audience happens one relationship at a time… and go over the top with it: respond to their comments, go read their stuff & comment on their posts... this doesn’t scale over time, but if you’re starting out, it’s a good way to play the game
>Related: being active like this is also a good way to build relationships & people who come up writing together tend to stick together, which makes this sort of life less lonely
-Good luck
>Also if you’re proud of one of your essays feel free to shill me, I’ll read it
