While we all can see that certain aspects are working, all the lighting and shadow calculations are promising but it still feels wrong and that's caused by the lack of context, vision, emotion, mistakes and what's more true and human than a mistake?
Art must be concious.
My view on the problem with DLSS 5 and AI is the same as on many artists' approaches out there.
The fundamental thing is that AI and many people are asking How? and What?
How it was made?
What tool has been used?
What camera was that.
The question should always be: Why?
...
By asking Why, you'll deep dive into the creator's mind and you'll discover that every decision, tool, prop and color is meaningfull and serves a purpose to show an subjective, intimate view on something universal that many of us experienced.
...
Good lighting relies on good assets, good composition, texures, design, art direction, etc.
AAA Quality needs AAA Teamwork.
This exaple shows Unlit mode on @ScansFactory assets, one of the bests looking on the market. Composing and lighting this scene was the easiest job ever.
If your scene looks “low quality”, it’s usually not the assets.
It’s the lighting
Good lighting makes average art look AAA
Bad lighting makes AAA art look cheap
Fix the order:
Blockout → composition → lighting → THEN details
So proud of my mentee, Scott McGarth! He just showcased the work he’s been developing during our @SkillTree_inc mentorship and shared his story of moving from film to games. I only nudged him — he absolutely crushed it.
Congrats, Scott!

@i3ecci_ Thank you!!!
I learned a lot since but this also was my first UE project after years in Unity
I had really medium technical knowledge before it but I think that's the reason this project is lit straight from the heart.
Observer: System Redux / PS5
I really don't know why I never finished the game in the past.. Platinumed it yesterday and really enjoyed it.
