Excited to share a new paper with co-first author Prof. Ann Pearson (@PearsonGroupEPS) out online today in @geosociety Geology:
"Ammonium “nutrient capacitor” model for δ15N signatures associated with marine anoxic events"

This was from my time at MIT and includes coauthors Gareth Izon, Chris Junium, Shuhei Ono, and Roger Summons.
We are really proud of this one and hope the twitter(X)-verse finds it interesting!
Don't know how big the science community is over here anymore but we had a paper come out today in PNAS: "Aerobic nitrogen cycle 100 My before permanent atmospheric oxygenation"

Just a reminder that Goldschmidt is for organic geochemists too! If you are thinking of coming, check out the session @AZoceanographer and I are convening. Great Lakes, great food and great science, what more could you ask for? Hope to see you in August. https://t.co/mi8yXm6CuO
Excited to share our work AND a cool cover photo in the current issue of @AppEnvMicro 🤩
We found that cellular energy state & carbon metabolism play an important role in shaping GDGT cyclization in a thermoacidophile.

The Sparks lab had the first #TidyTueday of the year, and student choice was a Taylor Swift themed data set. This was the visualization I came up with (expand for best view).
Plot shows general increase in Metacritic scores of TSwifts albums, with cover color palettes.
Calling all organic geochemists! Abstract submissions for both the 2024 GRS and GRC in Organic Geochemistry are now open. Join us for “Navigating the Modern Era of Organic Geochemistry.” Links to GRS (https://t.co/5NiiACDORM) & GRC (https://t.co/gvHa1vKT2q).

If you are still around for Friday afternoon at #AGU23, come check out a talk that @chrisjunium and I put together about nitrogen cycling during OAEs and beyond!
Falling behind: postdocs in their thirties tire of putting life on hold.

I am incredibly thankful to @PearsonGroupEPS for coming to find me at the Organic Geochemistry GRC (best conference around) and exclaiming "I have a model that can do that!" after seeing my Kivu data. This was a wonderful collaboration, and I hope people find it interesting!

To wrap up this now overly long thread, we think we have come up with a feasible model to recreate OAE δ15N records, and the role of chemocline-modulated NH4+ delivery to their generation.
