The doctor who delivered Dolly Parton in a one-room Tennessee cabin in 1946 was paid with a sack of cornmeal. Her father farmed other people's land and could not read or write. Eighty years later, the reading program she built in his name has mailed more than 300 million books.

She wrote "I Will Always Love You" on the same afternoon she wrote "Jolene," as a goodbye to Porter Wagoner, and released it in 1974. Elvis wanted it. The night before the session, Colonel Tom Parker called and said Presley would only record it if they got half the publishing, meaning half of everything the song ever earned. She had been in Nashville ten years by then. She said no, and cried all night. Whitney Houston cut her version in 1992, held number one for fourteen weeks, and Forbes later put Parton's royalties from it near $10 million. She put some of that money into an office complex in Nashville and called the place the house that Whitney built.

Dollywood opened in Pigeon Forge in 1986 because she wanted paychecks in the county she came from. Around 4,000 people work there now. Three million visitors come every year. The University of Tennessee put its economic impact at $1.8 billion, and it is the largest employer in Sevier County. Since 2022 the company has paid tuition, fees, and books in full for every worker from their first day, seasonal hires included.

Wildfires tore through those mountains in November 2016, killing fourteen people and destroying more than 2,400 buildings. Her foundation was handing out money within 48 hours. Every family that lost a home got $1,000 a month for six months, regardless of income. The final check was $5,000. Total delivered: $8.9 million.

In April 2020 she sent $1 million to Vanderbilt for coronavirus research. When Moderna's vaccine results ran in the New England Journal of Medicine that November, her fund appeared in the footnotes.

Carl Dean, her husband of nearly sixty years, died in March 2025. The note she wrote to fans afterward ended with the same five words she wrote for Porter Wagoner back in 1974. She died in Nashville today. Her family asked that instead of flowers, people give to the Imagination Library, which still mails 3.4 million books a month to children who will never get to meet her.

On October 7, Eden Nimri (22) bravely confronted Hamas single-handedly. At the time, she was wearing pajamas and stood at the entrance of a bomb shelter, protecting the people inside. She saved 17 girls.

According to a Ynet report, all 17 girls survived safely.

Survivors recounted that when Eden ran out of ammunition, she fought the terrorists unarmed, using only her bare hands.

She sacrificed her life while defending Israel and her friends. Eden was only 22 years old. Her bravery will never be forgotten. Her memory will always remain with us 🎗️

Absolutely boggles my mind that 21-year-old investment bank interns are subject to stricter insider trading rules than members of Congress.

These guys have access to more material non-public information than anyone on Wall Street—legislative changes, pharmaceutical trials, classified military intel, defense contracts—and they’re using it to operate their own amateur hedge funds from the House cloakroom.

Pelosi and her serial drunk-driving husband consistently outperforming the market. Ro Khanna making thousands of trades every year. Hundreds of other examples, across both parties. It’s completely absurd.

If you want the extraordinary privilege of being one of the most powerful people in America, you—and all members of your immediate family—should be required to place your liquid assets in a trust that can only invest in the S&P 500, a bond market ETF, and a money market fund. You can change your allocation among the three choices quarterly, but that’s it.

No more call options on biotech companies that just told the FDA about a medical breakthrough. No more short-selling defense contractors that just briefed the Armed Services Committee about production delays. No more fake “blind trusts” whose rules aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.

Show up, do your job, and faithfully serve the American people. If you don’t want to do that, go study for the CFA exams and test your mettle against Ken Griffin and Steve Cohen in the trading world (for some reason, I don’t expect your streak of beating the market to continue once you and your staffers are no longer getting confidential briefings).

But no more of this Capitol Hill Wolf of Wall Street bullshit. It’s corrosive to good governance, it undermines democracy and trading markets alike, and we, the American people, are done with it.

Never ask someone if they "accept Israel’s right to exist.”

Ask them if they "accept Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people."

The first question is easily dodged by ideologues:

a) "No country has a right to exist," or;

b) "Yes, as a democratic country that doesn't show a preference for any one people or religion."

The second question gets to the heart of the dispute.

For Western anti-Zionists and communists, the objection is to the Jews as a people entitled to self-determination. And the idea of a Jewish State that favors Jews.

So when they say they object to any "ethno-state," ask them whether they similarly reject countries constituted as the national homes of particular peoples, such as Croatia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania & Albania.

And when they say they object to any country that shows a "preference for a religion," ask whether they object to the more than 80 countries that either have an official religion or give preferential treatment to one, including the UK, Denmark, Greece, Spain and Argentina. Or the 27 countries that have Islam as their official religion.

When they backtrack a little and say they object to Israel privileging Jewish immigration ask them whether they similarly object to Germany privileging ethnic German immigration, Armenia privileging ethnic Armenian immigration, or Greece privileging ethnic Greek immigration?

When they narrow it down further to objecting to not allowing the descendants of Palestinian refugees to immigrate, ask them whether a similar hereditary right should be granted to the descendants of war refugees from all 20th century wars?

When they change course and say “Israel is an apartheid state,” ask them what rights are denied to Israel’s 2m Arab citizens, who are prominent in medicine, academia, sport and business?

When they shift focus to the West Bank and say Israel shouldn’t rule over West Bank Palestinians without making them citizens, ask them when was the last time Palestinians demanded Israeli citizenship?

Ask them whether they know that more than half of the West Bank Palestinians (1.5 million) live under the non-democratic Palestinian Authority.

Ask them whether they know another 400k Palestinian residents live in East Jerusalem, where they are entitled to Israeli health insurance, National Insurance benefits, education, employment rights, access to Israeli courts, freedom of movement within Israel, and to vote and run in municipal elections.

Yes, Israel and the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) present complicated historical, legal and security questions.

One can criticize and oppose government policies without opposing Jewish self-determination, which since 1948 has been realized in the State of Israel.

Most likely the person you are speaking to really doesn’t like the idea of a Jewish State, but hasn’t yet settled on the reason. When the objection comes first, the rationale is flexible.

In 2001 George W Bush proposed a partial privatization plan for Social Security so you could put 10% of your SS contribution into the markets.
