What a shocking piece of journalism. @Nick_Delehanty loses a business that employed people, and the @IrishTimes decides to kick him while he is down, branding him a “failed election candidate” and attaching several other negative labels, including “anti-multiculturalism,” which is not even an accurate description of his position.
Nick has written extensively about government overspending, the cost of IPAS, the people becoming millionaires from Ireland’s immigration system and many other important issues. Yet those stories receive little or no attention from the mainstream media. His business folds, however, and suddenly it becomes a national story.
This is the Irish media at its worst. Go after the messenger, ignore the message and celebrate when a dissenting voice suffers.

A little TV birdy told me today that the primary reason mainstream media won’t publish the DCC social housing figures is because of their sheer dislike of Cllr Gavin Pepper.

As per usual, they have it ALL WRONG!

Cllr Pepper is easily the most misunderstood politician in Ireland.

In the last week alone:

• he travels south to respectfully grill Matty Carthy at the ploughing championship (link below)

• Then he travels north to bury the hatchet with Michelle O’Neill to advocate for people who suffer from tourrettes syndrome

• today he announces, €20k raised through private donators for local Moate Early Education Centre.

• This is all in ADDITION to getting the most coveted set of social housing statistics released. Data that councillors up and down the country have wanted for years now.

He has five (maybe six?) kids
& drives a disabled taxi

The man is a machine.
He doesn’t stop.

USC – 15 YEARS LATER, WHY ARE WE STILL PAYING IT?
The Universal Social Charge was introduced by the Fianna Fáil–Green Government in Budget 2011, at the height of the financial crisis. It came into effect on 1 January 2011 and was presented at the time as an emergency/temporary measure.

We are long past that recession and the bailout era.
Then in 2016, Simon Harris described USC as a “hated temporary USC” and said it had been introduced as an “emergency and temporary measure.” Fine Gael went into that election promising to abolish it.

This is 2026.
Ten years later, USC is still on our payslips.
That speaks for itself.
