This is exactly the kind of argument you get on social media that sounds clever until you interrogate the practical reality.
If you've actually plied that bridge, you would know immediately that “just make the barrier movable” isn't the brilliant solution it sounds like.
@sirjaay A movable barrier solves all of this in an easier way. My problem is not with the demarcation, my problem is that it is fixed. You can still have concrete barriers that are movable in times of accidents or breakdowns to allow traffic decongestion.
But “make it movable” isn't an engineering solution simply because it sounds flexible.
If you're going to speak confidently about infrastructure, at least understand the infrastructure, the traffic behaviour, the physical layout and what has already been tried.
Infrastructure has to be designed for the environment and behaviour that actually exist, not the behaviour we wish existed.
So yes, there is a legitimate conversation to have about the median and incident management.
We build a pedestrian bridge, then put barricades on the road to stop people from crossing at ground level.
And what happens?
People tear down the barricades and cross anyway—sometimes literally underneath the pedestrian bridge.
And here's the thing: we've tried temporary barriers on that road before. If you've actually driven there, you know what happens. Heavy-duty vehicles drive over them, damage them or simply render them useless.
This is the same mentality we apply to pedestrian bridges.
Now we're saying: let's put a temporary barrier there and somehow expect everyone to cooperate with it when there's a breakdown?
Who controls it?
Who moves it?
Who ensures trucks don't drive over it?
Second, the physical separation exists for a reason.
Anyone who uses that road knows how traffic behaves there. Trucks and heavy-duty vehicles routinely drive into the middle of the road, forcing other vehicles into dangerous positions.
First, the alternative-route argument shows that we're not even talking about the same physical reality.
The road connecting to the Second Niger Bridge is literally about 100m from the foot of the existing bridge.
With food safety and authenticity receiving increased attention, having the right checks in place matters.

Earlier this week, our CEO was in New York for Unstoppable Africa 2026, the flagship event of the @GlobalAfricaBiz.
As someone building for African businesses, there were several conversations, ideas and perspectives that stood out to her.

One thing I’ve learned building @Nkaisehq :
Your customers will often tell you exactly what needs to be fixed. You just have to pay enough attention to hear it.
Your customers leave clues everywhere. They show up in the conversations you have with them.
Customer feedback isn't just something to respond to. It can reveal what your business needs to fix and help you make better decisions about what comes next.

I really like Omarchy, but I don't use everything it offers, so I created my own, more minimalistic distro based on Omarchy. Check it out:

@Cloudflare Dashboard appears broken for me. https://t.co/KougO9qsCu hangs on the loading screen, while direct requests to login, signup, and other dashboard routes return only {}. Browser cache has been cleared and the issue persists. Any known outage?
I will never get over Elon Musk, after 25 years of lying about going to Mars, finally gets caught because of IPO due diligence, and his excuse to the public is: “Oh, we found out it’s farther than the moon.”
