People underestimate (or just weren't here / don't remember) how instrumental NBA Top Shot was to the last cycle and the massive onboarding we experienced. Feels like we've clearly lacked something similar this time around.
During the peak, there were tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people waiting in queues for pack drops that were almost always +EV. The majority of these people had never interacted with crypto before.
A significant portion of this community got a taste of making money and then found their way into NFTs. They were part of BAYC's success, and people like @MoonOverlord had entire Discord communities that initially had a huge Top Shot component, leading participants down various crypto rabbit holes.
As much as crypto Twitter and VC's want to believe that "retail is here," they really aren't -- at least not nearly in the way they were last time. We've maybe added a few thousand gambling addicts, but for the most part, anyone who wanted to gamble on shitcoins was already doing it. And those that are aware of crypto don't feel compelled to play the games we're playing.
We need new games to play to draw people in, and these games need to be profitable. No one would've bought a Top Shot pack if they were -EV (which is basically every memecoin play over the last year). New entrants need opportunities to make money -- not just once, but maybe twice or three times.
I keep seeing posts about how "there are so many good apps in the pipeline." But nearly all of them are just variations of gambling with your friends, social trading, or something that merely makes trading easier. I'm not convinced this is growing the pie. Probably one of the reasons this cycle doesn't feel as PvE and is just more mercenary than usual.
Put together a write-up on why I'm bullish @synesis_one and the SNS token. Decentralized compute / GPU plays have taken the limelight, but I think people are overlooking an equally important part of the AI sector.

Wrote about how the current memecoin mania reminds me of the 2021 NFT craze, and how the memecoin cycle is playing out almost identically.
There's a lot to be learned from viewing memecoins through the lens of the last NFT cycle.

If you're familiar with my past work you know that i love social experimentation. I find smart contracts to be an incredibly compelling medium for this and for creative collaboration with other artists. It's never been a better time to be a creative dev.
To carve out space for this I am launching an art studio, @basement_xyz , that will release drops every 4 - 6 weeks. These drops will be participatory, chaotic, gamified, and collaborative. Some drops will be purely digital while others will feature physical objects and IRL experiences.
I am deeply grateful for everyone that has listened to me obsess over these drop ideas for the past year. Your critiques and insights have been invaluable in shaping them. Special thanks to @rahuldotiyer@berness16@mikechrupcala@durtis @madpinney @_sross_@lovidlovid @pleasuredoing @BlairSimmons and ofc my partner Claire that refuses to join this app - I appreciate you guys ❤️🔥
If this sounds interesting to you follow @basement_xyz
The first drop is in collaboration with @culturehub_org and @BlairSimmons
There's a ~3pg. stretch in Predator's Ball with more value on building "culture" than there is in hundreds of lectures, books, and papers written on the subject.
In essence, it boils down to 1) Pay your people really well, 2) Give them autonomy, 3) Make them feel like owners
@inerati@tolstoybb Certain videogames (fromsoft, few others) utilize the medium to tell a story only they can tell, which incorporates the player. Everything else would tell a better story if it was a movie/show
Her work is featured in Vanity Fair’s “Best Movie Posters of All Time” and found inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. This is the first time she’s going on-chain. And the first known artwork referencing both René Magritte and Ace Ventura.
Its quite a time to announce a new fundraise - but we're nonetheless thrilled to support @JukeFrames, which is bringing the film & TV world into Web3
projects w/ the NFTs as the center of gravity will struggle over time imo
point of nike is not to sell shoes, or to have shoes, or even to run in shoes
