A8- This year I really focused on creating a rapport with my Ss beyond the classroom. I quickly realized just how much it means to the Ss to show up and be their cheerleader. They love to introduce you to family, and for the first time- they save you a seat ❤️❤️ #5thchat
A5- My room mom sent out an “About Me” sheet one year for T Appreciation. I wrote that I like the Cubs. A student thought it meant I liked actual bear cubs and gave me a pillow from his house with a bear cub on it 😍 #5thchat
A4- For my everyday princess in need moments, I head to my grade level. I also am super thankful for an awesome supervising teacher to swap ideas with. #5thchat
A3- I have my class vote each year. This year they voted on Peanut Butter/Jelly Time. One I’ve heard was “Tootsie Roll, Lollipop/We’ve been talking, now let’s stop” Super cute! #5thchat
A2- My flexible seating contract. It’s hard for them to understand it’s not about sitting next to your friends, but more about where you learn best. #5thchat
Hi! I’m Sara Smith. I teach 5th grade at Beulah Elementary. My favorite fairy tale would be Jack and the Beanstalk. I feel like it’s a good lesson in being grateful for what you have. #5thchat
I heard a teacher talk to a student about his soccer game as he walked into class. That might seem like a little thing. But if you understand how class climate is built… if you understand how relationships with students are cultivated… you know it’s a big thing.
@TatMaylor@Beulah_ES When I was doing one of my 100 hour practicums, the teachers were able to get a sub for a plan day. They were able to plan out the last nine weeks of the year. Not sure if that’s doable, but it seemed to really work out for them. 😊😊
A5- Support. It’s exhausting day in and day out planning engaging, activities/lessons, but you spend the majority of the time correcting behaviors. Also, being a listening ear helps. Letting us vent or just cry it out every once in a while helps a bunch ☺️ #122edchat
A4: For daily communication, I use the Remind App to text Ps. If a problem continues, I’ll call P or conference. I make sure the P knows what the plan is so they can reinforce at home. I also make sure to let them know what worked and what didn’t work. #122edchat
A3: One of the biggest challenges I have is not reacting to a situation. Most of the undesirable behavior is attention seeking and they want that reaction. It sounds corny, but many times I just count to 3 and take a deep breath. #122edchat
