π¨ Getty Images is down -99.95% in the last four years as AI kills its business.
It is now filing for bankruptcy as part of a restructuring deal and going private.
Getty was one of the world's biggest stock photo companies. It charged businesses and media for photos and videos from its huge library.
In 2022, it went public at a $4.8 billion valuation.
Then AI image generators arrived. They make the same images in seconds, and Getty's stock photo sites, Agency and iStock, came under pressure.
Getty went to court. It sued Stability AI, the maker of Stable Diffusion, over its images being used to train the AI. A UK High Court judge largely ruled against it.
Its planned merger with its rival Shutterstock then collapsed, leaving Getty alone with heavy debt and growing competition from AI.
By August, Getty pulled its financial guidance. Its debt was $2.1 billion, and its market value is now just $20.74 million.
Now the Getty family and Koch Equity Development will own 100% of what is left.
Getty spent decades making billions by selling images.
AI made it possible to create similar images in seconds. And now a company once worth $4.8 billion has lost almost its entire value.
This is how fast AI can destroy an established business.
A Cross-B Ranch cowboy whose name was Frank Smith brands a maverick calf out on the open range in 1909. Frank is using a ring branding iron for this. Another sensational photo taken by famed cowboy/photographer Erwin E. Smith, who left a great archive of photos that you can view at the @theamoncarter in Fort Worth.

Golden light, soft blooms, and a little magic. πΈβ¨
prompt:
Soft, dreamy editorial portrait of a fictional young woman with a short, tousled auburn-brown bob, wispy bangs falling across her forehead, and loose flyaway strands lit by golden sunlight. Her head is tilted slightly, with a calm, serene, slightly sultry gaze toward the camera, dark defined brows, and a small delicate septum ring. Glowing, sun-kissed skin with warm peachy tones, natural minimal makeup, and full lips in a muted rosy-terracotta shade. She wears an oversized chunky knit sweater in cream and oatmeal with a nubby, boucle-like texture, one shoulder slightly slipping, with dappled sunlight patches across the fabric. Blurred pale pink blossoms drift in the foreground at the top and left edges, creating a dreamy frame. She leans against a soft muted blue-gray wall with gentle light bokeh circles glowing in the background.
Lighting and tone:
warm golden-hour window light streaming from the upper left, soft dappled shadows across the face and sweater, gentle backlit glow on the hair, light leaking across the frame, warm highlights with slightly lifted shadows, airy and romantic atmosphere
Style keywords:
fine art portrait photography, soft-focus dreamy aesthetic, cinematic natural light, film-like color grading, pastel palette of peach, blush pink, cream, and dusty blue-gray, shallow depth of field, creamy bokeh, subtle film grain, Kodak Portra 400, editorial lifestyle photography, intimate and ethereal mood, Pinterest-style aesthetic
Composition and camera:
vertical 9:16 composition, medium close-up portrait from the chest up, slightly high angle, subject centered with the face in the upper third, out-of-focus pink flowers framing the corners, shot on an 85mm lens at f/1.8, shallow depth of field, negative space in the soft wall background
