@LunaEdu5 I thought the same thing! I've spent so much time ability grouping and the more I reflected on my own class this week, the more I realized how accurate that effect size is. My students thrive through the implementation of peer collaboration!
"As teachers we must confront the fact that in most cases our students will only be with us a single school year. Therefore we must prepare them from the first days of the school year to leave us" Are YOU preparing your students for the future in 1 school year?! #ImpactLearningKS
@CaseyKe58540158 This is so important in teaching students to become independent learners! Teaching students HOW to problem solve and recognize their own levels of understanding is crucial in created ACVLs! #ImpactLearningKS
A crucial measure in collaborative peer learning is that your students are clear that "the standard of knowing is the ability to explain to others, not understanding when explained by others." #ImpactLearningKS
@EmilyProvenche2 It is so important that our feedback is specific and allows students to truly understand where they are and where they need to be moving forward. While praise is great for self-esteem/confidence, students need more to become ACVL! #ImpactLearningKS
Students need to be able to first identify where they are, where they need to be, and where to go next. Our feedback should then be able to guide them and fill the gap from where they are to where they're going next. #feedback#ImpactLearningKS
@kristinshowalt This!! Students must be given time to practice before being expected to DO! Giving students choice when practicing skills allows for them to really take control of their learning by knowing what works best for their own progress.
Make learning meaningful!! "It's not enough to 'cover the content.' Instead, teachers have to focus on the ways in which people learn content, which includes practice and feedback." -Developing ACVL by Fisher, Frey, Hattie #ImpactLearningKS
Teachers & students have a role to play in helping students know where they're going in their learning journey. It's important to remember all students don't arrive to the destination at the same pace, but we can give them the tools they need to enjoy the ride! #ImpactLearningKS
@Abigail22525741@hpeine Guiding students on how to monitor their own learning allows those metacognitive aspects to fall into place. Students are able to know when they do and when they don't know something, but then they DO SOMETHING about it! #ImpactLearningKS
@Kristin00388157 This is a great way for me to reflect on the things I am doing in my classroom. Am I helping my students build these characteristics through my teaching strategies?
"To ensure that students become assessment-capable learners, teachers must actively help students learn how to learn, in part by helping them select appropriate learning tools." #ImpactLearningKS#assessmentcapablelearners
@EthanRandolph18 Teacher clarity is SO important! With an effect size of .75, it shows how much teachers and students need to be on the same page and communicate to help grow that clarity. Not only should teachers know how students learn, the students should know how they learn as well!
Students often confuse what theyโre learning with what theyโre doing. They can tell you about the activities theyโre engaged in, but not the intended learning those activities are designed to achieve. This is why #TeacherClarity is so important! #ImpactLearningKS
