Reading education blogs changed my practice, so I always want to try take the opportunity to share the love.
Here are a few free blogs I've read recently that I thought were super, please share if you can!
I work at a school that doesn't have merit points or rewards or anything like that, so this piece by @msrebeccabirch on intrinsic motivation really appealed to me: https://t.co/gEMMUmpfla
We are in the midst of an SEND crisis, and part of the problem is outlined by @head_teach: that some schools have astonishingly higher numbers of students with SEND than others: https://t.co/WgKKA9qLF6
@joel120193 is smashing out hit after hit on his blog, and this piece on the sheer amount of things teachers have to do resonated: https://t.co/mLZJbExzxy
@mpershan wrote a typically scholarly, wide-ranging and sophisticated piece on implicit vs explicit learning, the memorisation of maths facts and much more. https://t.co/wzdja56EhE
Next up are two posts on AI:
@alex_crossman has written an excellent piece on the risks of AI to education. Our job is to get students' thinking hard, and AI's job is to get people thinking less hard. These aren't compatible, and we need to pull the brakes hard. https://t.co/KlbPPvalW6
Whilst not strictly about education, Gary Marcus's entry here about the security risks of OpenClaw and other weird things is vital if we are to take internet and AI security seriously. https://t.co/qSHAIfEQEO
Of course, I've been blogging too, and you can check out my entries here: https://t.co/ybu2w6TiD9
As stated at the outset, please share if you can!

Reading education blogs changed my life, so I want to do everything I can to share and amplify recent blogs. Here's a list of some I've really enjoyed, and I'll try and get some suggestions of quality free blogs out regularly.
Please do share and subscribe if you can - writing blogs is an intensive process and authors need encouragement or they will stop!
Claire Stoneman's characteristically beautifully written piece about the small blessings that make teaching worth it: https://t.co/JFwINfjatP
Teach Like a Champion team with some useful tips for observing lessons: https://t.co/WRCzxLF2W5
Lee Donaghy on how the most inclusive way to teach is to be clean, clear and explicit at all points: https://t.co/QgXpQw51Qy
Adam Robbins with a nifty tweak to the way you challenge poor behaviour: https://t.co/Be9gDtlky3
Shaun Allison with a slew of useful strategies for effective lesson management: https://t.co/PJRtiSSjTw
Lee Wheeler speaking my language in arguing that schools don't focus enough on retrieval practice and long term learning: https://t.co/PZRcAY4MOU
I'm posting another blog soon, and you can check out and subscribe to my account here: https://t.co/lxaU5YsSEF
Thank you to @stoneman_claire@Doug_Lemov Lee, @MrARobbins@shaun_allison Lee W (is he on X?) for writing!
@madamelanguages Great, hope you find it interesting! Conti also has some diagrams on his blog/social media about the sub-skills needed for each skill which are quite helpful - as long as you are giving time to practice each stage and not skipping them, I think you have some flexibility
@madamelanguages I've written some blog posts reflecting on my thoughts on this: https://t.co/9VPWFolozB and speaking focussed: https://t.co/51CRBYnes6 I'd love to hear what you think!
@madamelanguages Interesting question! I've not heard of that order before, but I agree that you need to put receptive skills before productive skills, and even within this, you need to consider the skills involved so you can build these up gradually and logically

Here's how you can calculate grade boundaries for your (AQA) mocks!
I've created a spreadsheet that will calculate a % for you, plus calculate grades according to 4 helpful methods.

You can use your teacher judgement to see the best grades to give, and know that it's based on the best data we have.
This is a huge amount of work that's gone into this spreadsheet, to help you feel as confident as you can be (considering it's a new spec)!
My Top 10 Speaking Activities! ๐ฅ

Have a read - hopefully be inspired, or at least reminded of something that works really well โค๏ธ

The best teachers I've seen don't use a wide range of activities.
They do a few things, and they do them well. They hone them, practise them, and know exactly when each one should be used and why. The students become habituated to them, and learning goes through the roof.
My planning document is a game changer for speeding up your planning! ๐
Several effective activity ideas, broken down by skills to help you quickly plan well-sequenced lessons ๐ฅ
