@James_S_Murphy@FAFSA@FSACOO Looks like @FAFSA is counting total number of transmissions, not unique student FAFSAs, if @NCANetwork's tracker noting 1.67M completed is correct (which I'm confident it is). Not to mention every state has shown a decline in completions. https://t.co/w5zUgobGVW
Let's be clear: There's no reason for this. I don't need to look at the WVU budget to know that that 45 million deficit comes from abandoning core mission for superfluous management and marketing, on top of consulting fees. I know that because it is true EVERYWHERE. (14/x)
State universities have a duty that private universities do not, to train for local industries like agriculture or engineering. Even die-hard liberal arts warriors like myself know this. (5/x).
I think the WVU situation is actually much more serious than we think. I would like to articulate this, because (as others say) it is of national and international import, bearing on upcoming changes at Florida by @BenSasse and in the UK. (1/x)
So, Ben Sasse paid McKinsey almost $5M to come up with the most tired & obvious strategic plan possible:
high tuition + high aid
online teaching
program cuts
Maybe if he paid them $6M they would've thrown in "boost enrollment" & "visit high schools."

the national disinvestment from the humanities, or even the culture war on the university. At the core is gross mismanagement by those who see university administration in terms of short-term razzle-dazzle changes, not long-term stewardship.
@dhfeld1@JonBoeckenstedt One example...Wayne County, with about 17% holding a degree and about 18% drop out rate. It sits next to Cabell County, home of Marshall University, and many MU employees live in Wayne County. But there's also a part that is very, very rural and economically depressed.
@JonBoeckenstedt As a #highered#EM professional in WV, there's not much "wow" in these stats for me, unfortunately. It's the graphical representation the challenges I face every day.
And now I’m spending the night in the @CLTAirport because I waited in line for ninety+ minutes for @AmericanAir to tell me they don’t give hotel vouchers when cancellations aren’t their fault.
Honestly, when my direct flight scheduled for 5:30 this morning was cancelled at 8:00 last night, I should have listened to my gut, cancelled the flight and drove instead. But no, I took the rescheduled flight from @AmericanAir Bad decision.
