Feeling tired post #COP29? Spare a thought for the developing country delegations that flew from Baku to Busan for @UNEP plastic negotiations. 5 more days of intense talks. Panama envoy Juan Carlos Monterrey Gómez being one.
#COP29 Thoughts now the dust has settled🤔
💵Climate Finance deal was essential but does falls short. A mere $300bn/year by 2035 VS the $trillions needed
🌱No meaningful text on the vital role of biodiversity in tackling the climate crisis
⛽️Fossil fuel phase-out language is MIA
What were the real outcomes of #COP29 and what do they mean for the future?
Check out this fanstatic piece by @CarbonBrief for the answers (featuring yours truly 😉 on the adaptation negotiations) and why the outcomes are so significant for the future of climate action!
Reaching an agreement at #COP29 was essential to keep the 1.5°C global warming limit alive.
I had hoped for a more ambitious outcome – on both finance & mitigation – to meet the scale of the great challenge we face, but the agreement reached provides a base on which to build.
It must be honoured in full & and on time.
I appeal to governments to do so, with urgency.

The Gavel Is Down! The #COP29 new global climate goal #NCQG has been agreed. But with it has come furious statements from a number Global South countries opposing the lack of ambition,
India - "We oppose the adoption of this document! We seek a much higher level of support"
And its done! NCQG agreement at the $300 billion mark. Party statements taking place now - many words from the global south on thier concerns for "insufficient outcomes obtained on climate finance" as per the words from Cuba moments ago.
#COP29 1:45am. The key point of the final plenary is about to begin. If Parties can agree to the Proposal by the President on the new global climate finance goal - a decision that will guide global action on climate for at the next decade!
...and now #COP29 has already broken the record of many of the longest climate COPs, including COP 6, COP 13, COP 19, COP 18, COP 26, COP 24, and COP 21, which is when the #ParisAgreement was adopted and which ran 30:33 hours over time
Parties will likely not get another opportunity to agree a new climate finance goal in the next decade. So if it passes, then it sets the tone for the most critical decade of climate action and how money will be mobalised.
Final hours of #COP29. Parties are gathered in plenary but a final text on the vital area of Climate Finance is still not published. It is unknown if Parties will take the deal that has been privataly presented. In the meatime frantic huddles are in full swing...
And here we go - all texts now live on all remianing areas. But all eyes are on the New collective quantified goal on climate finance, and if parties are willing to accepet the numbers on the table - set at $300 billion in the draft - https://t.co/IokXXivJTQ

at #COP16Colombia demands action on Digital Sequence Information (DSI). It's time for an agreement at COP16 that ensures profits from nature contribute to its restoration
#COP16Colombia has begun with an opening ceremony centering the voices, culture and rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in Colombia, who called on delegates to take action to preserve our common home "Let's save our Earth...without it, we are nothing." @OfficialZSL
Here in Cali, Colombia for #COP16Colombia 🇨🇴 Ready to advocate for strong action on biodiversity with @OfficialZSL. We need ambitious national plans, climate and nature synergies, scaled-up species recovery, and real commitments for financing nature action. 🌎
