Honestly, y’all, be careful of a theology where you’re only allowed to think of yourself as a pathetic worm. Worminess is appropriate at times but, if you are in Christ, you are blessed beyond comprehension, chosen, called, forgiven, redeemed and sent forth to serve a lost world.
My friend after I poured my heart out to her today: “Thank you for weeping. The Lord loves you in your weeping. And I do too.” Who says a sermon needs to be longer than 15 words?
Then Peter said to him, “Lord, how long must we sing the ‘Oceans’ chorus? As many as seven times?”
Jesus replied, “I do not say to you seven times, but 77 times.”
On hearing it, his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” And many walked away sad.
Christ Himself is the common ground that lies between our many differences and disparities, and it is spacious, holy ground. There is room for us all there. “For Christ himself is our peace; he has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier—the dividing wall of hostility.”
Jesus’ prayer “that all of them may be one” means that my commitment to you as my brother or sister in Christ supersedes every ideological, political, & cultural difference that stands between us. I am eternally bound to you because I am bound to the One who died to make us one.
Lord, I repent of being complicit in & contributing to racism & white supremacy in the church by profiting off a system that was unjust to people of color. Forgive me for thinking it was enough to simple say & believe it to be true, “I’m not racist.” Forgive me for my passivity.
This thread really matters. I encourage you to read and digest it. We can think globally and comprehensively and work on issues of injustice in inclusive, strategic, intentionally diverse ways. https://t.co/FFcohOf79U
