V happy to see this out - reprocessing 5million SARS-CoV-2 genomes to remove systematic errors (+thereby improve the phylogeny) and improve representation of genomes from the Global South. Huge amount of work esp. from Martin Hunt, Angie Hinrich+collabs

"To my knowledge, there is to date no evidence that SARS-CoV-2 has become more virulent or more lethal — nor, for that matter, that it has become less so," writes the virologist Edward Holmes https://t.co/CGbW7iCmW4
Finally, a huge thanks to everyone that has made this work possible, including @MHRPinfo, @WRAIR, and all those that have submitted data to GISAID so rapidly.

We know that #SARSCoV2 has mutated whilst spreading around the globe – but will this affect the efficacy of vaccines in development? In our paper published today, we explain why we don’t think so.

Taken together, we can be cautiously optimistic that viral diversity should not be an obstacle to development of a protective vaccine. As a comparison: all circulating SARS-CoV-2 Spike sequences, versus HIV envelopes sampled in 2010.

It is discomforting that most people still underestimate true impact of #Covid19. Immediate effects are so shocking that we are all caught up in them. But longer-term implications may be more profound still. If we are not careful, they will shake the world order to its foundations
Excited to announce our upcoming FREE PUBLIC event on 31 Jul - #SARSCoV2#COVID19 scientists & journalists explaining COVID-19 science! 🎉

This type of reporting on #SARSCoV2#COVID19#coronavirus makes my blood boil. There is no evidence that the dominant strain is such because it is "more contagious"
