All this faux concern from the government about patient safety is strikingly absent when it comes to legislating for safe staffing levels, or indeed actually paying staff properly so they don't leave the NHS for better paying jobs in other professions or other countries!
I’d wax lyrical about the sacrifices our amazing nurses made during the pandemic… but I’m not sure that’s necessary. Nurses don’t need to be idolised as martyrs or applauded as heroes. They need to be paid fairly for the work they do. Absolute solidarity with the #NursesStrike.
You’ve heard of elf on the shelf, now get ready for IT’S ONLY THE FIRST WEEK IN DECEMBER AND THERE’S 65 WAITING TO BE SEEN AT 5 PM ON A MONDAY WITH NO BEDS ON THE WARDS BECAUSE OF MASSIVE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE UNDERFUNDING BY THE TORIES I MIGHT JUST SCREAM FOREVER
Sincere thread for people who aren’t sure about why nurses are striking:
Nursing is one of the lowest paid graduate jobs in the country. A newly qualified nurse will go in at £27k a year but with significant debt, having worked for free for three years prior to qualifying. 1/
@daisyniiamh Exactly because of poor staffing you become the experienced nurse very quickly and the amount of risk you take on and balance is massive for such shocking pay! Thrown in the deep end and we wonder why there’s staffing issues
The NHS is in crisis.
Patients are unsafe.
Our members are saying loud and clear: enough is enough.
For the first time in the RCN’s history, our members have mandated strike action throughout the UK.
RT to support nursing.

@noodles_nood Yep. Corporate gaslighting. How we feel in the nhs is due to shitty systemic issues and no amount of false positivity will fix it. Can’t meditate ya way out of poor pay and no staff
🚨 BREAKING: Nurses across the UK have voted for strike action.
RT if you will stand with every single nurse that takes strike action to lift themselves out of poverty.
Claps won’t pay the bills.

@Saltwater_Sunae THIS. I’m childless but my family are just as important to me and peoples kids are to them. Everyone should do their fair share of shifts at the holidays - all signed up for the same job.
Utter contempt for my profession by @theresecoffey Disgusting and demonstrates a complete lack of understanding and respect for the vital role nurses play in delivering expert, safety critical patient care
So the government are telling nurses, to consider their patients before they go on strike.
This comment is entirely insulting to all nurses. The government should consider the patients when they are setting the pay of those who are caring for them.
Our biggest ever strike ballot is now open. We’re encouraging eligible members across the UK to vote ‘yes’ to strike action and fight for safe staffing.
