A new video has been added to the In2Out collection!
Focusing on our Life Skills work, it shows how we help young people gain confidence and skills for living independently on release from prison. Take a look https://t.co/vhRSvpGtwn
@HannahLSmithson @the_AYJ@mcys_mmu@AssnYOTmanagers I wonder if these figures about restraint would show a better representation of the Juvenile Estate if they were show next to the figures showing the rise in violence? Im not sure they can be viewed alone.
The system is failing both the young people and those working with them.
If we continue to release people without the basic essentials needed to get their lives back on track, then we continue to set them up to fail. For people to truly move away from the cycle of #CellStreetRepeat, we believe they need these tools in the form of a #ReleasePack.
Prisons Failing Young Adult Offenders
Inspectors say HMPPS places most young adults in adult prisons without any coherent strategy and with little understanding of the way young men in their early 20s mature.

After months of campaigning and legal action, we're pleased to welcome today’s decision to amend the recent extension to custody time limits to exempt children, meaning children will spend less time in custody and their trials will take place sooner. https://t.co/dnMyZupUmK
Lockdown has impacted us all, but we are yet to see the extent of the damage on our future generations. Sadly the closure of youth projects has been on the cards way before the current pandemic. It’s very shortsighted leadership to de-value our youth! https://t.co/ijxX3Ut1W6

"[It was] nice to have something as I didn't get anything else."
"Thank you for all the thought you put into it."
Just some of the comments we received after In2Out distributed Christmas Gift Bags at HMYOI Wetherby.
For everyone working out their tax right now, just send the government a big box of cheese singles, a pack of frubes and a note explaining that works out as three grand.
@charlie_taylor6 Absolutely agree that this isn’t ok.
But when staffing is low, risk is high. Do we value the lives of these children higher than those working in the service?
Look after those looking after our children!
‘The solidarity of the shaken’ is a nice idea. The thought that in our brokenness we find togetherness. In our individual challenges we can also become one. #InThisTogether
Yes. What have we forfeited in return for ‘safer environment’? Education, Training, detailed resettlement plans, mental health, pastoral care, faith practices, meaningful interactions, purpose..... Hope?? Very short sighted thinking... to suggest that this is the answer.
I don't know about you, but I find this new narrative that prisons are much better & safer with prisoners locked up all day every day profoundly disturbing.
