As Scotland is being threatened with massive pylons in order to serve the foreign state south of the border, independent Denmark is spending billions removing pylons and burying 3,300 kilometres of overhead cables underground. Part of the long-term project is along one of my cycle routes.
The final paragraph on this info poster explains that the project will increase 'supply security' and 'beautify the environment'. Aye, protecting scenic beauty as government policy. There's a thought for Holyrood's erstwhile @scottishgreens and faux nationalists.
Of course, highly unlikely any of this would be happening if Denmark was annexed, colonised and plundered by its larger southern neighbour.
Scotland is being asked to host the bulk of the UK’s new super-pylons. Of the 43 major transmission projects in the first wave, around 33 are here.
Our landscapes and communities will bear the visual and environmental burden for Great British energy security, while our power is exported south.
This is not sustainable.
The compensation being offered (DESNZ, August 2026) is £250 a year off bills for 10 years for households within 500m of eligible new or upgraded infrastructure.
Yet, the sheer scale of the affected regions including the Highlands, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll, Skye, South Lanarkshire, and Dumfries & Galloway demands a better deal.
These are major national infrastructure projects, not small local upgrades. Key routes include the 107-mile Spittal to Loch Buidhe to Beauly line, Beauly to Peterhead, the 66-mile Kintore to Tealing line, and significant reinforcements at Fanellan, Hurlie, Banniskirk, Cambushinnie, Coalburn, and Skye.
The financial setup also penalises us.
The TNUoS charging system is locational, meaning Northern Scottish generators pay the highest rates in UK while some southern English zones actually receive credits.
Forecasts show Scottish projects facing hundreds of millions in costs. We produce the clean power, but we pay the premium.
Constitutionally, energy strategy, charging rules, and grid design are reserved to Westminster.
Consent for individual overhead lines and substations rests with Scottish Ministers via the Energy Consents Unit.
Holyrood can demand better mitigation, but the core decisions that load Scotland with this infrastructure remain in London.
Communities are not powerless. Scotland’s Community Rights to Buy exist for exactly this moment.
Part 2 (register interest) and Part 5 (sustainable development) give eligible bodies a route to land ownership, which significantly strengthens your negotiating hand on terms, payments, and land use.

Your Community Council is your first line of defence.
If you live in an impacted area, contact them to check exact routes:
Highlands, Caithness & Sutherland: Spittal, Banniskirk, Loch Buidhe
Beauly & Inverness: Fanellan corridor
Aberdeenshire: Hurlie, Kintore to Tealing, New Deer
Angus: Tealing
Argyll: Creag Dhubh to Dalmally
Skye: Edinbane, Broadford
South: Coalburn, Mark Hill, Denny to Wishaw, Sanquhar
The bottom line:
Communities must come first.
We need proper consultation, stronger conditions, genuine benefits, and the right to shape what happens on our land.
Full energy powers would allow us to design a system that works for the people who live here which is why Independence is our best way forward.
But under a failed & extractive devolution settlement communities can organise, use the available tools, and demand better.
Our land and communities are not expendable.
Neither are our human & community rights.
This was very typical behaviour of the handful of male protesters who are supposedly protecting women. Denise is a Gorbals resident and was constantly harassed by men when being interviewed.
The government tell us to turn our heating down and eat less red meat for net zero. Yet they ram through gigantic hyperscale data centres that consume as much electricity in 24 hours as roughly 89 average streets use over an entire year. We are being treated like suckers.
Britain's economy is flatlining because of austerity, Brexit, tax avoidance, utility company rip-offs and supermarket price gouging. Not because of the unemployed and the disabled.
The weirdest thing about Reform is that they are TELLING YOU poor people, the working class and the disadvantaged will all have their rights and protections removed, and be worse off.
But still, those very same groups vote for them. Just because they’ll go after Black and Trans people. That’s how hyped up + and blood thirsty the population has become, due to their daily fix of poison on social media and the BBC. Nothing else matters to them.
This idiot knows absolutely nothing.
His party know absolutely nothing.
They’re leaving the ECHR to lower our minimum wage, to remove regulations on the maximum working week. It’s got nothing to do with immigration, it has no effect.
Absolute mugs being brainwashed by Reform.
Blaming asylum seekers for homelessness? What about the 720,000 empty homes in England, and the 1,627,450 second homes in England alone.
Blaming asylum seekers for expensive food shops? What about the £3,100,000,000 profit Tesco made last year?
Blaming asylum seekers for expensive energy bills? What about the £438,000,000,000 made by just 20 energy companies in profit?
Blaming immigrants for not getting an NHS appointment? What about the 260,000+ migrant workers keeping the NHS going? And what about the 25% real term cut in NHS funding, think that could do it?
Blaming people on welfare for a lack of money to fund the NHS? What about the £36,000,000,000 tax gap due to avoidance and evasion by the elite?
It's time to realise it's not immigrants, asylum seekers or people on welfare causing you any harm, it's capitalism and the mega rich hoarding all the wealth.
Well done Nigel Farage, Rupert Lowe, Robert Jenrick, Richard Tice, Lee Anderson, Ben Habib, Tommy Robinson, Laurence Fox, Carl Benjamin, Isabel Oakeshott, Douglas Murray, Allison Pearson, Douglas Carswell, Dan Wootton, Elon Musk, Matt Goodwin, Suella Braverman, Calvin Robinson, Rob Bates, Jonathan Harmsworth, Paul Marshall, Rupert Murdoch, Tom Hunt, Paul Golding, Konstantin Kisin, Patrick Christy, Martin Daubney, Jordan Peterson, Andrew Tate, James Melville, Katharine Birbalsingh, Claire Fox, Kelvin MacKenzie, Mike Graham, Charlotte Gill, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Jeremy Vine, Alan McCormick, James Orr, Peter Thiel, Bev Turner, Iain Duncan-Smith, Ben Elliiot, Danny Kruger, Michael Shellenberger, Miriam Cates, Niall Ferguson, Philippa Stroud, Winston Marshall, Alex Phillips, Jeremy Kyle, Sarah Pochin, Arron Banks, Michael Gove, Liz Truss, Matthew Elliot, George Cottrell, Lois Perry, Nick Tenconi, Mark Littlewood, Peter Whittle, Trevor Phillips, Nick Candy, Zia Yusuf, and all the others working hard to turn England and Britain into an embarrassing, dysfunctional, unequal, unwelcoming, dangerously polarised, violent, racist shithole, where almost everyone has forgotten that divisive irresponsible scapegoating rhetoric led to WWII, and to the Holocaust.
But at least the fucking flags are out now! And the calls for 'mass deportations' of non-white people - many of whom have escaped war, persecution, or torture - along with Muslims who have chosen to make their home here, are growing louder and louder, every single day.
You're not 'saving' Britain. You're not 'defending Western civilisation'. You're not 'protecting women and children'. You're doing the exact opposite, by turning ordinary people against each other in order to protect the ultrarich against democracy and progress. And you're getting paid handsomely for it.
Well done. Mission nearly accomplished.
These are your boys.
You must be so proud.
