📈 Super-compensation theory asserts that following a bout of exercise there is an inevitable period of fatigue. An athlete who pairs their training load with the proper recovery time will not only return to their performance base level,
2/5
but will adapt & therefore develop the capacity for a higher level of performance: SUPER-COMPENSATION!
The theory of supercompensation means that the athlete can handle the same training load or a greater load with ease in the subsequent workouts
3/5
if recovery is adequate & the new training load is timed properly.
This adaptive phenomenon is an ongoing wavelike process dependent on the relationship between training load and recovery. And if timed poorly, a deterioration in fitness/performance can occur.

Are you over-training❓
Or are you under-recovering❓
🔗 These two slides were made in collaboration with @TheHealthSpace1 following our recent chat on the podcast about the science and psychology of the endurance athlete.

Going with the full click bait title for today’s @UK_STO conference.
I truly believe most therapists make simple mistakes by chasing the sexy stuff & not mastering the fundamentals.
We can be so absorbed in the now that we don’t look back or forward to learn, grow and plan.
Looking forward to tonight’s recording. This one will be a bit of a reflection on our own push into endurance and working towards exercise goals. The wins the losses, the journey and the learnings.
New episode!!!!!
We loved this chat with @theEndurancePT on all things endurance. So many nuggets and takeaways especially around the psychology of the endurance athlete and the importance of recovery.
