Scotland's campaign against precarious and exploitative work, backed by the @ScottishTUC.

In response to these awful testimonies, we have teamed-up with @PunksWPurpose to send the following open letter to @BrewDogJames calling on him and senior team to meet with @unitetheunion reps at @BrewDog
If they truly care about their people, then they will negotiate with them
Since @BrewDog announced the abandonment of the real living wage 2 weeks ago, we have been inundated with testimonies from members about the impact of this & how the company has treated workers organising to collectively challenge the decision
Here are the first of their quotes:
James Watt has written to @BrewDog workers to attack the media for reacting negatively to their abandonment of the real living wage, committing to return to paying it “as soon as we can. But that time isn’t now.”
This is a company that has just announced expansion to 200+ venues
At 10am we launched a national petition via @MegaphoneUK calling on @BrewDog to reverse its decision to abandon the real living wage.
In the time it took us to post about this, 3600 people have supported it. In 24 minutes.
This is going to be massive!
Not only have @BrewDog ditched their commitment to pay workers a Real Living Wage during a cost-of-living crisis, they’re also spinning this real-terms pay cut as an ‘increase’.
What they actually mean is that workers outside London will only be paid the legal minimum wage.
🚨Rally for sacked Virgin Hotel workers
2pm TODAY outside Virgin Hotel on Clyde St
Following the shock closure of the newly opened Virgin Hotel, workers and their union @unitetheunion will rally to demand wages, redundancy pay and compensation
All supporters welcome.
By getting organised and unionising, hospitality workers at The Stand have won the basic terms and security that all workers deserve.
Nobody should have to put up with any less than this. If you want to get organised, whatever industry you work in, get in touch with us.
🚨 BREAKING 🚨
Our members at @StandComedyClub have just secured a landmark recognition agreement.
The first of its kind in the sector, the agreement will mean that workers have a direct say in their pay, terms and conditions through their union @unitetheunion
🚨 BREAKING 🚨
Following a very impassioned meeting with workers from across @MillerandCarter our reps have voted unanimously to take action at various sites during the Christmas period unless Mitchell’s & Butlers agree to the following:
A new study by @The_TUC has laid bare the plight of young workers in the UK, with precarity and poverty pay being shockingly prevalent.
We want to hear from young workers about how this affects their lives, and we're here to help if you want to push for better terms at work.
🚨 BREAKING 🚨
Workers @MillerandCarter will lose *even more* tips & service charge over Christmas/New Year as company confirms it will continue to make unlawful deductions based on % sales.
Workers will have to tip-out more than they make, meaning “tip-debt” being owed.
New research by ACAS has found that 3 in 5 workers are unaware of the rights of people on zero hours’ contracts. Only 1 in 10 were found to be ‘fully aware’ of these rights. (1/3)
If you’re on a zero-hours contract and are unsure of your rights, or if you’re concerned your employer isn’t meeting their obligations, we want to hear from you. (3/3)
We also desperately need wage increases to be combined with strengthened rights and protections for all workers, including an end to zero-hours contracts and other exploitative practices.
The government are panicking, and are tossing scraps. We need to keep pushing. (2/2)
The minimum wage increase is a response to immense pressure from workers and unions throughout the cost-of-living crisis, and doesn’t go far enough.
£11.44 is still below a real living wage - which, it’s worth remembering, is the bare minimum that workers need to live on. (1/2)
... including those in bogus self-employment like Deliveroo riders.
Workers in Scotland and across the world have shown incredible resilience and determination in this fight, and this judgement won’t stop them. (2/2)
In a major setback for the struggle against exploitation in the gig economy, the UK Supreme Court has ruled that Deliveroo riders are not employees.
More than ever, we desperately need strengthened employment laws which extend rights and protections to all workers... (1/2)
Despite repeated warnings from waiters at @MillerandCarter to stop touching hard-earned tips, senior management @eatdrinkmb have instructed their General Managers to continue making unlawful deductions.
Our members shall now be taking legal action & escalating their campaign.
