Two big data brokers have answered my call to permanently stop selling the location data of people who visit abortion clinics. This is a good start, but we can’t rely on the goodwill of Big Tech. We must pass my Health and Location Data Protection Act. https://t.co/v9gvPGvETu
@PhuzzieSlippers 1/2
I hear what you're saying, but I also think it's natural to see power structures from the lens of one's relationship to them, so in a structure with racist and sexist foundations which is deployed to protect a class hierarchy other people's privilege is sometimes more...

......obvious to those that don't have it than those that do.
For instance if part of your privilege is not getting harassed by cops you may not notice it so much.
@PhuzzieSlippers Go ahead and use different words, but awareness of intersectionality is necessary, and privilege is a helpful concept to understand intersecting issues and marginalization
When talking about many-worlds quantum mechanics, I struggle with answering "Where does the energy come from to make extra worlds?" If you know the equations there's no worry -- energy is perfectly conserved. But it's hard to explain in words. So here is my latest attempt! (1/n)

@alas_not_me I know it totally dates me but I have been reading Tolkien for 55 years. My great uncle ( a wonderful gentleman) gave me a set of the paperbacks. I still remember the wonderful covers.
@alas_not_me That sounds wonderful! My PhD was on C. S. Lewis and Ursula Le Guin as writers of didactic mythical fantasy. I loved the experience of analysis and the actual writing though I suspect the critical approach of over thirty years ago is now outdated.
Sure, AI emotion-detection tech can tell you your employees are bored during meetings, but WHY are they bored?

Just read that there have been nearly 200 mass shootings, since January 2022 alone. The narrative of the lone wolf or the isolated incident has to be completely thrown out; there's clearly deep problem with our culture and our systems and our country.
Some say we should keep the filibuster because it could stop a Republican Senate from doing more damage. But in 2017, it wasn’t the filibuster that stopped the GOP majority from repealing the ACA—it was the American people, by speaking out and fighting back.
The mathematical concept of algorithmic complexity seemed inapplicable in the real world. But scientists are now using it to analyze networks and push their evolution toward optimal solutions. https://t.co/jec950tdkq
Today Delhi hit 49.2° Celsius (120.5° Fahrenheit). When I go out for shopping in the afternoon, I can't walk for even few seconds on the road due to extreme heatwave. Temperature are more high on the ground than the air. It's difficult to breath the air. Very dangerous for kids.
