@MarkOConnell1@jimdundrum Partition of India, 1.2 million Greeks violently displaced from Anatolia with 400k Muslims going the other way. It's no justification of what happened in Palestine but it but can hardly be said to be an aberration. Another million displaced in the wars in the Balkans in the 90s
@EmployRightsIE Once the interest rates went up post-covid funds were largely absent and they were only really present in Dublin. Outside Dublin the biggest 'vulture' is the state. IRES REIT is the largest private landlord - 3600 odd units. Clรบid has over 13000
@flyingscrsafari@torcargail Ordinary people are entitled to a clean, tidy and safe public realm. Vast majority of addicts do not use in public but some do, without any consideration for others. This is shitty, anti-social, selfish behavior by a minority and should not be tolerated in the city centre
@Gallussc@AnMailleach No one wants to rent with a load of random people either but do so out of desperation. Shed with independent access a better option imo
@CorkGourmetGuy So just like VAT 9% for hospitality! We foot the bill, and get nothing from it. Zero self awareness from someone in food/hospitality to frame the protests this way
@jasonomahony 'Vulture funds' buy distressed assets at a discount and tend not to hold them for long. They are not involved in financing construction in Ireland
@Dublinmarti@thejournal_ie I think the Dรกil needs Mothers, their perspectives and their experience. It was a boys club for decades. We should be constructive in how we facilitate them and recognize the challenges they face to serve
@Dublinmarti@thejournal_ie Poor form. It's not a matter of money. It's working in Dublin, living in Cork, late nights (votes on Wednesdays often past midnight) all this with a new baby. It's incredibly difficult for non-Leinster based mothers elected to the Dรกil
@SophieMcDLaw Ordinary people are entitled to a clean, tidy and safe public realm. People are degrading it for a small personal gain without any consideration for others. This is shitty, anti-social, selfish behavior by a minority. Its on them, its not society's or the Council's fault
@Aidan_Regan Local authority staff not up to the task in my opinion. Look at the standard of some of the work they have commissioned and overseen.
In Galway alone the "redevelopment" of Eyre Sq and paving over the cobbles in Shop St with tarmac.
@KitMurray@eric_nelligan Do you not see any issue with the disproportionate allocation of a scarce resource to one specific group? Asylum seekers are not 70% of the homeless population requiring assistance
@pmosligo@Emma_A_Webb@maryharryheff for another suspected rape (which he was subsequently convicted of) there was very strong DNA evidence but he was nevertheless released. I think a lot of the anger is similar in that if the system(bail/deportation) had worked as it's supposed to the crimes wouldn't have happened
@pmosligo@Emma_A_Webb@maryharryheff I think a lot of the anger arising from the City west case, which is over and above the anger we see in other cases of rape and SA is similar to what we saw after the murder and rape of Swiss student Manuela Reido in Galway by Gerald Barry in Galway in the 00's. Barry was on bail
