Dear @ChristinaSNP @_KateForbes @JohnSwinney Cutting through the #spin here. In the recent SG release, it was stated, "The first three months of 2024 represented the highest number of quarterly approved placements since records began." This claim is based on unpublished data, as the available data is only reported in six-month periods. Utilising unpublished statistics is problematic. @UKStatsAuth take note.

Over the last 18 months, the number of "placements" (not rehab stays) has remained relatively constant, with figures of 461, 477, and 461 in each of the last three six-month periods. This indicates no significant increase in placements. Additionally, the largest recorded data pertains to Ward 5, a mental health ward, where I have reliable information that over half of the stays were for five days or less. This is not rehab ! This is #Spin

As well as addressing established addiction we need to tackle the root causes: poverty, hopelessness, loneliness & alienation from society.
