@DogUmwelt Amazing that I loved your books *before* I even knew about your Uexküll "thing" (and I loved Sebeok when I first read him in about '93, first in the de Gruyter series and then his own books). Just thought about this/you whenI used the word “umwelt" spontaneously.
@DogUmwelt I absolutely love when I'm watching something about dogs on YouTube and see you! (This is the one about dog vision in the pun above). HOLY CRAP they just mentioned Uexkűll!
@DogUmwelt … If I read this through you first, you actually would've been the first person I thought of (BTW I use that example about some giant structure like the VLA and the drop of peanut butter more frequently than you might imagine…)
@DogUmwelt my god thank goodness it is just a dolce Gabbana press release thing and unlikely to actually be sold but then I also think about the people who would try to do such a thing and really get pissed off
@DogUmwelt Chuckled a bit though when I imagined someone sending an email to DG's customer service: "I 'mist' my dog in this but as soon as I let it out it rolls around in a dead bird"
@DogUmwelt Though I follow you avidly I didn't read the Atlantic article until now. Suddenly you mentioning Quid reminded me of "aliquid stat pro aliquo"; the first time I heard that phrase was probably through Sebeok and thru that heard of von Uexküll and "umwelt"!
@DogUmwelt I was thrilled to share that memory with you because of all people who would get it would be you (I didn't have a lot of semiotics friends where I was then–would've been Madison Wisconsin and early 90s)
@DogUmwelt … before her announcement had concluded I looked to see if the domain was active yet and it was so ordered very early! I thought it would just be an artifact but hoped it wouldn't… (I am proud to afforded for her as county DA, senator, and VPOTUS.
@DogUmwelt I was so happy to see this! I still have my "Kamala Harris For The People" (lovely double entendre because it's the way DA addresses The Court) sticker on the back of my wheelchair from 2020…
@jdickerson I was listening to @SlateGabfest and talked of debates… It barely takes mention of that topic from you all to make me think of the "threat" to "…turn the car around" which has joined my collection of favorite debate moments.
@jdickerson just happened upon this photo of your mother and read bio as well… My sister (who was not a person of consequence like your mother) was also born in Wauwatosa!
