@tracewoodgrains 100%. She is publicly admitting she was wrong. That is hard. It is tempting to indulge in piling on for her error, but I am very impressed by and admire her changing course so publicly.
@ChristianHeiens I very much disagree. I think many people, myself included, have had their minds changed from reading and even reading debates in comments. I hope everyone continues writing forthright pieces in the pursuit of truth, because I do think it’s very impactful.
@DKThomp@ryanburge The Mainline will come back. It will absolutely come back. It is a wonderful, welcoming tradition, and we are not done. We have been lost for a while, but we will rebound.
@ryanburge@washingtonpost@BrazosPress I really appreciate your work. I fear this piece is missing that (at least in my experience as a Mainline Protestant), the churches near me are not moderate but are very left, close in political tone to the UU. I see extracting themselves from a political identity as essential.
@KDansky@suealtman I cannot thank you enough for your work, your clarity, and your persistence, Kara. None of us can. Committed liberals frustrated reading this tweet don’t realize right now what a gift your perspective is to break them free from a mania with no fit with their logical framework.
@Sidewalk_Steve@daniellismore ☝️This is the absolutely essential point. We spend so much time talking beyond this gate, but this very premise establishes that this movement as one that is definitionally supernatural. That’s not a value judgment. It is merely observing the reality of the entire ideology.
@_CLancellotti Would you ever write a longer form piece on this? Excellent and very thought-provoking take. I have been thinking a lot recently about where Protestantism has manifested (namely Wokeness, particularly Trans) in the midst of a downswing in actual church attendance.
@DKThomp But what is the point of a moral argument when considering the actions of the State on COVID? Its sole duty is to abide by the law. Moral justifications are *precisely* the problem for many of us former Dem voters. I mean no snark here fwiw.
@_CLancellotti 100%. Religion has become coded as something for the uneducated among my fellow elites. It’s tragic. Particularly those purporting to be serious about anything intellectually should definitionally have a deep commitment to these questions, not to ignoring them.
@_CLancellotti@Chris_arnade@christopherrufo What a fantastic take. It is so hip to focus on the negative elements of X and completely ignore the value of sharing perspectives like this. I am going to be thinking about this for a week.
@patio11 Even in rightly advocating for more normie, cash flow-centric entrepreneurship, this remains rooted in maximal Silicon Valley self-aggrandizement. “An outcome easily within the grasp of 50th percentile founder.” Genuinely, please spend more time with non-tech founders.
