Ever had a perfectly reasonable suggestion get completely twisted into something extreme — and then attacked?
Welcome to the Straw Man fallacy.
Meaning
Misrepresenting or exaggerating someone’s actual position to make it easier to attack, instead of engaging with what they really said.
Corporate Example
In a quarterly planning session, the Product Manager (Rahul) suggests:
“Let’s pilot an AI-assisted triage system for 10% of tier-1 support tickets to free up capacity for high-value work. We’ll measure CSAT and resolution time closely.”
A senior support manager immediately jumps in:
“So you’re saying we should fire half the support team and replace them with chatbots? That’s terrible for customer trust and team morale. We’ve built relationships over years — you can’t just automate everything!”
The actual modest pilot idea never gets discussed. The conversation shifts to defending against mass layoffs.
As a Scrum Master, what I should think
Did I (or the team) allow the original proposal to be distorted?
Is fear of change (or protecting territory) turning the discussion into a fight against a version that was never proposed?
How do I bring the conversation back to facts without escalating conflict?
How high-performing teams deal with it
They practice Steel Manning — restating the other person’s idea in its strongest possible form before critiquing it.
A good facilitator or team member steps in:
“Just to make sure we’re aligned — Rahul suggested a small, measured pilot on 10% of tickets, not replacing the entire team. Can we respond to that actual proposal?”
They separate legitimate concerns (job impact, customer experience) and address them directly, but without letting the discussion get hijacked by the exaggerated version.
When we attack straw men, we don’t just kill good ideas — we kill trust and psychological safety in the team.
Clear thinking starts with intellectual honesty: engage with the real argument, not the convenient distortion.
Have you seen a Straw Man twist happen in your meetings? How did the team handle it?

Better to ask one question today... than give ten explanations tomorrow.
तुम्ही clarify करता... की assume? 🤔
"Being right" आणि "Getting results" हे नेहमी same नसतं.

Follow through करा.

Manager

पण easiest person to work with होणं...

Right work, Right time, आणि Right people पर्यंत ते दिसलं...

Prove it ??
Latur guys in mys hostel used to take 0.5 bucket during bath while West Maharashtra used to take "shower"
Prove it or delete it.
@MarathiRojgar Why the map is wrong..? are you educated enough.?
It's surprising that highly educated and advanced people can make a such fundamental mistake.
Region is backward because of power politics. Don't insult people living there.
