Four NLP papers were included. The focus was on extracting real-world data for learning health systems.
Included in the list is my former postdoc @bgp_tweet. Congrats Braja!
In the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (@AMIAInformatics), Dr. Braja Patra (@bgp_tweet) and @JyotiPathak use natural language processing systems to identify social support & social isolation in clinical psychiatry notes: https://t.co/RVVH4rdTXV
Our rule-based system obtained higher macro-averaged F1-scores compared to FLAN-T5-XL. We’re working on improving the LLMs for future iterations! (4/n)
To fine-tune FLAN-T5-XL, we used synthetic data generated via ChatGPT and refined by domain experts. This synthetic dataset is open for others to use. Check it out: https://t.co/um770YwwKd (3/n)
Research presented by @JyotiPathak and colleagues at the @APAPsychiatric Annual Meeting finds that certain patients with opioid use disorder are more likely to face stigma and bias from health care professionals: https://t.co/C198ytpspG
@JyotiPathak@ChaTogether@Jess_T_Tran@APApsychiatric “The words we choose in clinical documentation and in clinician to clinician communication have consequences. When patients see words like “addict” vs “person with a substance use disorder” it can lead to negative attitudes.”

If you are interested in #ClinicalNLP, please vote for our workshop on the subject.
Voting is very important in the decision-making for which workshops are selected for ACL/NAACL/EMNLP/COLING. We would love to have a ClinicalNLP 2022 workshop!!

I've often wanted to do a systematic review on NLP for SDoH extraction from EHRs. @bgp_tweet et al. make it clear why I never did - they reviewed almost 5k abstracts! Herculean effort.
