We used PagerDuty at a larger enterprise where I worked previously. We had the budget for the subscription and a fairly extensive alerting setup feeding into it.

The environment I manage now is much smaller. We use Zabbix webhooks to send alerts into Webex channels, then Webex automation handles calling or notifying whoever is on call. So we’re not really using PagerDuty here.

I have mixed feelings about it. I can see the value in a larger setup, but for our current needs, the tools we already have are doing the job. It comes down to whether the additional capabilities justify another subscription.

Started in IT as a network admin. A few “have you tried restarting it?” moments later, here I am working in infrastructure and DevOps, from legacy Unix and Linux to automation and modern cloud.

Built a little something for the @dhh / Omarchy community:

Omarchy Jump: install Omarchy directly from an existing Linux system, no USB stick required.

It downloads the official ISO, sets up a one-shot GRUB boot, copies the live environment to RAM, and boots straight into the Omarchy installer.

Supports Ubuntu/Debian/Mint/Pop!_OS plus Fedora/RHEL-family systems.

Would love to see something like this become an official migration path into Omarchy.

This is especially true in old-school enterprises. I once heard an allegation that a senior executive had their mortgage paid off by a vendor whose multimillion-dollar renewal was at stake, and the vendor’s sales head allegedly made it happen. The executive was eventually pushed into an early retirement, but at least the mortgage was paid off.
