🇮🇳 India has found gas in the Mahanadi Basin, off the coast of Odisha

ONGC struck it about 43 km from Konark.

The gas sits nearly 1.5 km below the seabed.

It's been flowing steadily for several days now.

This is the first well drilled under Samudra Manthan.

That's a ₹84,000 crore government mission to search for oil and gas in Indian waters through 2031.

ONGC had already found gas nearby in this same basin before.

So this discovery builds on ground they already understood well.

Right now, India imports most of its oil and gas.

That ties fuel prices to global wars, sanctions and politics.

Every domestic find chips away at that dependence.

Engineers will now test the well further to check if it's commercially viable.

Since it's close to shore, development could come faster and cheaper than gas found further out at sea

But the bigger question is: what does this mean for Odisha?

If commercially viable, it could mean revenue, jobs, infrastructure for the state.

Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation is developing city parks in four packages worth nearly ₹6.81 crore.

• Package I: 5 theme parks - ₹1.96 Cr, completed

• Package III: 7 parks - ₹1.90 Cr
• Package IV: 4 parks - ₹1.05 Cr

RMC has already developed 25 parks and plans to develop another 22 ahead of the Godavari Pushkarams.

Around 250 MLD of sewage is generated daily, but only 170 MLD is treated. The remaining 80 MLD reportedly flows directly into the sea.
